Permanency and Alter Self

Rules Questions

Can the spell Permanency be used for Alter Self?

Only the spells listed in the Permanency entry can be affect by RAW. Any other spell that is added to that list is a house rule.

dang. thanks friend.

You could get an item for that, though :-)

Curse of the Riven Sky is a solid PF module that has the greater hat of disguise, a magic item that functions as a hat of disguise, but with alter self instead of disguise self, and would be a good place to start if you were interested in such an item, Fastmover, but concerro is correct, permanancy specifically lists the spells it can effect and their costs.

Permanency does allow other spells not on the list, but it is subject to GM discretion. So, speak with your GM about it. Unless, of course, you are the GM. Then you don't have to worry about it :)

You could grab a salve of second chance and reincarnate yourself.

Sweet! Greater Hat of Disguise huh... I wonder how much that costs to buy or to make. I want to play a child but without the group worrying about me being a child.

DESCRIPTION
Like a hat of disguise, this garment allows its wearer to alter her appearance. It functions as an alter self spell (as opposed to disguise self). The hat becomes part of the disguise and can be a hat, a helmet, a headscarf, and so forth.
CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, alter self; Cost 6,000 gp

Personally I think the writer is a bit off. Its aura should be transmutation rather than illusion, and despite having the same cost as goggles of the night the greater hat of disguise can net you darkvision 60' plus a whole bunch of other abilities (like a Strength bonus or swim speed of 20'), so its cost should perhaps be altered, but there it is.

Why would a child be in an adventuring group?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A continuous item of alter self should cost 24,000 gp. The writer forgot to include the modifier for a 1 minute/level duration.

If the target/caster is close enough.. look to Poly any object.. the duration might be permanent and duplicate the effects of an Alter Self.

Or he figured those formulas are just guidelines, and figured 10k markup would be enough for changing Disguise Self to Alter Self.

Alter Self was 10 minutes/level in 3.5, but even then that only reduces the cost to 18,000 gp.
