To me, the flurry of bows is always been a way to give the monk free feats (TWF chain + double slice for free) nothing more, nothing less.
Except that:
1) they don't qualify as having these feats for any prerequisites.
and
2) they aren't even emulating Double Slice for free, unless Double Slice came with the caveat that using a two-handed weapon plus unarmed strike/armor spikes/blade boot reduces your bonus damage to 1x Str with the two-handed weapon attacks.

Close, it is missing its full BAB in one area, namely skirmishing. You cannot move and attack and have the benefit of full BAb. Monks, having abnormally high move speed, should be able skirmishers, instead it is one of their weak points for their BAB. Granted, maneuver mechanics have been streamlined and are more advantageous to players than they were in 3.5, but lack of skirmishing leaves monks with a disparity.
If my monk has to move, and there's a target he can hit, he Overruns them at his full monk level CMB. If not Overrunning, perhaps Grapple, or Trip. The point is, if you're not using FoB, you should rely more on your maneuvers to aid you in skirmishing, because your regular non-flurry attacks are quite crappy, but Maneuvers aren't.

The problem there is what happens when you get to mid levels and more and more things either
Don't have weapons
Can't be tripped
Are far better at grappling than you
Too big to bull rush, drag, repostition or overrun
And steal, and feint would do little good.
Sadly, against the huge ancient red dragon, maneuvers do not cut it.

And what about the other 200 combats that your character will be in before he even gets close to being able to handle a CR that high? Is he supposed to forgo Maneuvers that are useful against 80% of the creatures in the Bestiary just because against 1 monster they're useless? Your Strategy has to adjust from Combat to Combat otherwise you're screwed. Also no Class ever is going to be able to solo an Ancient Red Dragon, which is why you have teammates
