Jotungrip duelwield?

Rules Questions

So I am trying to make a Godkiller(in the Kratos "oh the gods are all jerks and I am going to kill them way). Obviously I will not be able to do so until epic levels but I wanted to know if you can duel wield two-handed melee weapons with Jotungrip.

The answer is yes.

Titan Mauler Barbarian Archetype wrote:
Jotungrip (Ex): At 2nd level, a titan mauler may choose to wield a two-handed weapon in one hand with a –2 penalty on attack rolls while doing so. The weapon must be appropriately sized for her, and it is treated as one-handed when determining the effect of Power Attack, Strength bonus to damage, and the like. This ability replaces uncanny dodge.

Since you treat an appropriately sized 2h weapon as a 1h weapon, you can. If you're a medium sized person you can wield 2 medium greatswords, for example. Large or larger sized 2h weapons are still not possible to wield however.

+1 exactly

The -6/-6 (assuming TWF feat) is enough to turn me off of this.

Large+ weapons are usable if your size category increases to match.
Enlarge Person is probably the typical way, but a Synthesist can achieve Garg(with EP).(obviously this sacrifices a few evo points for the Barb dip)

you'd want to multiclass with the 2 weapon fighter archetype,
which can 2WF with 1-handed weapons without the normal penalties.
comboed with jotungrip: larger size bastard swords, that seems to pull it off.

Well, I was more thinking about the duel wield 2h weapons as a later game thing so it would be more ridiculously awesome.

I thought that you could only jotungrip appropriate sized 2h weapons?

Technically a Bastard Sword is a 1 handed weapon, so an oversized Large Bastard Sword would be a medium sized 2 handed weapon.

EDIT: But it would not work with Jotungrip because of the specific wording of Jotungrip. "The weapon must be appropriately sized for her". Thanks to Archaeik.

it doesn't work for Large bastard swords (2d8)

I'd have to go back over the list, but you'd probably want Medium x4 equivalent 2H weapons (Falchion/Scythe or Elven Curve Blade/Tetsubo)

In some respects the falcata is still going to win, but you don't need jotungrip to use it.

as for Two Weapon Warrior, it should reduce the penalties to -4/-4 (I think at level 9)

Keep in mind, you're also sacrificing the 1.5x Str by not wielding them with 2 hands.

"appropriate sized" means == to your current size category

if you are temporarily(or permanently) enlarged to "Large", you now MUST use weapons that are Large to continue using jotungrip.
Fortunately, EP also enlarges any weapons you are holding when it happens. (but if you get disarmed and pick it back up, you are SOL)

Similarly, while fused, a Synthesist with the Huge evo MUST use Huge weapons to make use of jotungrip.
If he casts EP, this increases to Garg

Well the choice of weapon for me has to do largely with the RP, but I admit that duel Bastard swords or duel Scythes would be BAMF.

Well I am going to probably start as Titan Mauler, so what would be a suitably lvl to switch to 2 Wep. Warrior in your opinion?

Two-Weapon Warrior

I was wrong, it's 11th

Improved Balance (Ex) wrote:

At 11th level, the attack penalties for fighting with two weapons are reduced by –1 for a two-weapon warrior. Alternatively, he may use a one-handed weapon in his off-hand, treating it as if it were a light weapon with the normal light weapon penalties.

This ability replaces Armor Training 3.

The level 15 ability does not improve this for non-light offhand weapons

The level 13 ability is desirable, but AoOs aren't necessarily what you care about.

Anyway, honest opinion, I'd start as the fighter, get what you need and then finish with TM.
But, in terms of what do you *need* from TM before you switch? No more than level 2. Level 5 is nice, and yes rage duration concerns are apparent, however
A)you're only looking for jotungrip (you gain no benefit to your primary weapons from the Massive Weapons reductions)
B)jotungrip is always on (not just when raging)

so it's a matter on whether you want specific rage powers that should guide your decisions.
I could see a build like this
Titan Mauler 2-6/ TWW 13 / finish off with TM
(this is just off the cuff unoptimized theorycraft)
I'd make sure to end the barb levels on an even one to get a last rage power before swapping out to fighter

And interesting point I just thought of, the Eleven Curve Blade is finessible, which could let you stack more dex for a TWF build
edit: which actually almost makes me want to try this, or at least work out a build...

Well Thanks for all the ideas

Well you can still wield them as they are now just 1-handed weapons for you (medium sized 2H weapons are 1H for a Large creature)

True enough, but now they are a Medium weapon wielded by a Large creature, still incurring a -2 on attacks and now with a decreased damage die. I consider that lose/lose.
