Artifacts and destroying them

I am not sure if this is rules, or general or what but I cannot seem to find much info on them at all. A little background:

The game I am running now is a part II of the game we finished last year. The last game I let the PC's get their evil on and it was all evil themed and amazing. Now its 200 years later and the party now has to contend with the actions they took all those years ago. There was one Anti-pally that became a Scion of his God. We'll after the fall of the group his armor was shipped back to his former Order to keep watch over. Now a silly squire (same PC) broke in and is now slightly possessed by the evil living within the armor. The theme of his RP is him trying to combat the evil within the armor with repenting for his crimes, he went a little crazy after first donning it on, killed something like 12 paladin elders and his sister.

I don't want them to try and cleanse the armor as it is now almost an Epic Tiered Artifact with near sentience. I am mainly looks for ideas to use as plot points on how they COULD destroy the armor. It's not the main focus of the game by any means but should my PC fall the evil within the armor he will transform into a new Scion of Evil.

Any ideas would greatly help me out, so thanks in advance.


But what if they aren't storied to begin with? yeah I'm just picking on the thread name sorry


Having the person wearing it die in a heroic and selfless sacrifice?

set right some of the wrongs the original wearer committed?

display it in a shrine for all to see as a warning against evil for a year and a day?

In 3.5 Evil artifacts could be taken to the plane of Celestia and lain on
Mount Celestia or more fully, the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia. here they would either be destroyed or the exhalted powers would transform them to artifacts of goodness.

For this it was suggested that the group would benefit from a Miracle cast by the powers that be in their favor.


Does the Armor grant any special powers aside from AC? If yes, it would be fitting if you had to use these powers for good or do the exact opposite of what they would do.

Scarab Sages

With a detailed history, you should have the players unravel the path taken to empower the armor.

Alternative idea: the armor must be worn by a demon as it ascends to Heaven.
