Fight defensively and use Parry?

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Here is (I hope) a quick one for you:

As a full attack action, can you fight defensively and use the Parry ability from the Duelist prestige class.

Fighting defensively has:
"You can choose to fight defensively when taking a full-attack action. If you do so, you take a –4 penalty on all attacks in a round to gain a +2 dodge bonus to AC for the same round."
Parry has:
"Whenever the duelist takes a full attack action with a light or one-handed piercing weapon, she can elect not to take one of her attacks"

It sounds like to do both, you would make all your attacks at a -4 penalty, and sacrifice one attack to open yourself for a parry later on. Both of these seem to me to be ways to modify a full attack action while not replacing the action itself. In fact one of the things that the Duelist class gives you is a defensive bonus (elaborate defense) when fighting defensively, and I don't see why they would give you a class-specific bonus that then precludes use of the most important ability the class has.

Am I missing something here?

You can indeed combine a Full Attack (Fighting Defensively) and Parry.

Remember, the Parry Attack roll you make will also carry the -4 from the Fighting Defensively (and it stacks with other penalties listed in the Parry Ability).

Additionally, the Duelist's later gained Riposte Ability which grants an attack of opportunity following a successful Parry will also carry the -4.

See I ask because I was really looking forward to combining it with Crane Style, Crane Wing, and Crane Riposte. Makes that penalty not such a big deal when it turns it into a -1 for gaining a +7 to defense (defensive fighting, crane style/riposte, 3 ranks acrobatics, and elaborate defense). Throw in a "Fencer" trait, and your penalty on the AoO for both riposts is gone.

Anyone else want to chime in? I want to make sure I have this right before I present my case to my GM. We have been discussing the legality of fighting defensively and using Parry.

If you're using a full round action to full attack and using a light or one-handed piercing weapon, you qualify for both Fighting Defensively as a Full-Round Action and Parry (Ex). You fight defensively and you give up one attack to parry.

At character level 15, yes.

Well it's not as if I'm going to be taking Skill Focus Profession Bartender for levels 1-14...
