No I get that, but we're talking about a Paladin here, so the Int is likely a 10 (no way it's higher than a 14 max) so, at best, you're looking at a +6 total, which means you're still only 50/50 for level 1 spells, and it only gets harder the higher you go.
I really don't see a reason to buy the skill at all, but I wanted to ask in case I overlooked something. :)

You usually need only 1 point in spellcraft because it is a skill that you always take a 20 on, at least for the Paladin. Let the full casters identify spells in combat. All it will be used for, for a paladin is so you don't have to prepare read magic to decipher scrolls.

50/50 is a whole lot better than 0, you can't use the skill untrained. I'd say it's worth a single rank to have an entire skill opened to you than to be marginally better at some other skill.
