Rope questions

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

I am making a character that uses rope as a weapon ( whip proficiency and equipment trick-rope). My question is: can I make rope masterwork and then magical or am I stuck with not being able to ungrade it, because rope typically a weapon.

Dark Archive

Just my opinion, but I don't see why not. Of course, discuss it with your GM before you commit to anything. But it seems reasonable to me.

Scarab Sages

The issue is its is a society character. So I am in need of a ruling, rather then a gm discretion.

What/where is equipment trick-rope?

Scarab Sages

Located in the society field guide. It is a feat. The equipment trick gives a list of different things you can do with a rope (as long as you meet the requirements- some need feats, others need ranks in skills).

If you ae proficient with a whip you can use rope like a whip, but with only 10 ft worth of reach.

It is not an actual weapon, just a rope that is used as one so I don't think it can be done.

It would most likely require GM fiat, and as you said PFS does not work that way.

As a PFS GM, I would recommend avoiding corner cases like this or expect to see a lot of table variation with GMs.

FWIW, I would argue that the rope can not be upgraded like a weapon.

Yeah that's what I was thinking to began with.

Liberty's Edge

I would also agree that it should not be enchanted as a weapon. Every item could then be upgraded, as with improvised weapon, they are weapons. No +2 Flaming Coffee Mugs.

Grand Lodge

Rope of Climbing, and Rope of Entanglement, are your future friends. Perhaps you can convince a DM to enchant one of these as a weapon.
