16th level Ranger Advice

Advice

Hey everyone, so I've reached a 16th level milestone and need some input on where to go from here. I've stated out my character and think that I have a decent idea of what he needs:

STR 18 - +4
DEX 31 - +11
CON 10 - +0
INT 12 - +1
WIS 20 - +5
CHA 10 - +0

FORT 14
REFL 25
WILL 10

AC 38/43 = 10 + 17 + 0 + 8 + 0 + (5[Bark Skin] + 3 + 0
ARMOR
+5 Celestial Mithral Chain Mail (12 AC, MAX DEX 8, Fly 60ft once/day)
+5 Mithral Armor Kilt +Shadowed (attached to any light/medium 6AC total)

>>>> Side note - Celestial Armor is considered light armor even though it is traditionally medium (the item says that it is considered light whether or not this is because of the mithral specifically or not I don't know) so with the kilt is it going to be considered medium or heavy in total?

+5 AC Bark skin

Weapon
+2 +4Mighty Frost Shock Distance Composite Long Bow

SKILLS
fairly negligible really
75% of the Dex, 10% Wis +Dungeoneering and Nature

GEAR
Cloak of Res +4
Headband of CHA +6
Belt of DEX +6
Bracers of Lesser Archery
Eagle Eyes
Broom of Flying
Ring of Delayed Doom (1 gem)
Ring of Protection +3
Efficient Quiver
Pale Blue Rhomboid (+2 STR)
Boots of Speed
Wand of Instant Enemy
Wand of Gravity Bow
Wand of Aspect of the Eagle
9 stacks of 20 - bane arrows
1 Human
2 Elf
3 Orc
4 Gnome
5 Dwarf
6 Halfling
7 Outsider (Evil)
8 Undead
9 Magical Beast

FEATS
Point-Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Improved Precise Shot
Rapid Shot
Endurance
Snaphot
Improved Snapshot
Manyshot
Clustered Shots
Deadly Aim
Shot on the Run / Heavy Armor Proficiency (considering the armor situation).

SPECIAL
Favored Enemy
1 Human +8
2 Magical Beast +2
3 Evil Outsider +2
4 Elf +2
Favored Terrain
1 Urban +4
2 Forest +4
3 Mountain +2

Input would be great! I also have 25k left to spend money on right now, so any more items would be great (party assistance items would be good).

I don't believe the enhancement bonuses stack on the armor/kilt, you only gain the +1 armor bonus from the kilt.

Go up to greater bracers of archery.
Take the heavy armor prof, and look at mithral armor for later.

Why do you have a headband of charisma instead of wisdom?

Boots of speed

Ioun Stone-The one that boost wisdom.

@Keltoi: As far as I know from what my GMs have talked about it should stack for them. Two separate armor pieces that have synergy together that is, so that's why I've taken the Kilt.

@Wraithstrike: The greater ones only give me a +1 to hit/DMG for 20k which seems like a pretty steep investment for little gain. The headband is in fact WIS, it was a typo. Boots of speed are on the list. Finally, the WIS stone does not stack with the headband unfortunately (I do have the STR one and can afford others).

I was asking why you did not get the headband and then later saying get the stone because you don't have the headband. Now I see it was a typo though.

I would get the stone that boost constitution at some point though.

... are you asking about feats, items or general progression over the next 4 levels?

It's just an overall "Please provide input on build :3" so all of the above, taking into account that anything can more or less be changed. Everything has to be stated for level 16 at the highest though.

@Wraithstrike The Con stone is actually a good idea, an extra 16-32 (depending on whether I can tweak some things to get 13) would be pretty beneficial.

It would still leave me with about 18-20 thousand gold left though. I'd like some things that would help assist my party (with healing, and upkeep in general) though. Something that would make me more effective that simply being a damage dealer.

Rangers don't get a lot of healing things, especially things that work at level 16. If you don't have eyes of the eagle that can boost your perception check so you don't get jumped. Celestial armor can allow you to fly making you a better scout.

Minor quibble - a 31 Dex grants a +10 bonus, not +11... also, how do you have 31 dex? Assuming starting with 20 (18 and +2 from racial bonus), then +4 at 16th level, plus 6 from the belt should add up to 30, unless I'm missing something?

Also, Bracers of Greater Archery grant +2 to hit and +1 to damage, so it's a considerable upgrade from the Lesser Bracers - definitely something to consider.

The wand of instant enemy *seems* nice, but I wonder how that would play out? In wand form it's a standard action to cast (not swift); so you draw it from the efficient quiver as a free action, then use your standard action to cast, then you have to drop the wand (unless you want to waste a move action re-stowing it the next round) to full-attack the following round. I suppose one can work out the optimization, but losing a full round (and possibly two) of attacks is pretty dear!

Also you've spent 72,000 (and change) gold on bane arrows (far more than you can carry in your efficient quiver, which holds 60 - where are the others?) At up to six-seven shot per round (depending on availability of haste, etc) you're spending 2000-2800 gp PER ROUND fighting certain creatures. That's rich even at 16th level! It might be more affordable in the long run to keep a few multi-bane bows on hand: A +1 bow with three bane enhancements is ~32,000gp, and it's usable *forever*: 3 such bows would cost 96,000, a bit higher initial investment, but it would QUICKLY pay for itself over time. These bows are easy to manage with your efficient quiver, of course.

I second eyes of the eagle, cheap and effective.

pylfer, be careful with aspect of the falcon (not eagle) because the competence bonus does not stack with bracers of archery.

The investment in arrows is HUGE. And I mean, are halfling really that scary in your campaign?? Also, you will run out of those pretty quickly, I don't really think it's worth it to spend so much on those. Did you consider an [url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/specific-magic-weapons/oathbow]oathbow

? maybe convince your GM to let you have it mighty +4.

Your bow is not the kind of weapon that I like. For one, the distance property would have been useless most of the time in every campaign I played, your bow already have nice range.
Then, shock and frost are easily resisted (granted, not as mush as flaming but still...) at that level: I believe that straight enhancement would be better for you from a damage perspective (it also help you get past DR, even if you have clustered shot its always good to ignore it completely). The seeking property is another one that you could consider adding to your bow.

Bracer of archery greater would give you +1 to hit and damage for 20k gp (if you can sell the old bracers at full price), enchanting your weapon to +3 would give you the same benefits for 22k and also let you pass DR silver and cold iron. Both are worth considering.

A few pearls of power or a lesser rod of extend could help you with all day buffs (longstrider, bloodhound, darkvision, terrain bond would be nice but probably too expensive).

A ring of sustenance could help the group making the one with the best perception be almost always alert (but you already have 2 rings). Another fantastic ring, but too expensive unless you sell something, is ring of freedom of movement. If it's too much you can also buy a 16k gp pearl of power 4° and cast it to make it last all day long.

As for feats, combat reflexes would be the natural evolution of the snap shot line. Greater snap shot is not worthy in my opinion. Point blank master would be good too: if retraining is allowed I would take this instead of shot on the run which is pretty useless in my opinion.
