I see the description of the feat, I was wondering if this was expanded on through errata.
There's no errata about this feat that I'm aware of. However, I think that having its bonus also apply when the caster is damaged it a good idea and I've adopted it as house rule.

The point is the caster level check is EASIER for damage unless you take large amounts as it drops from 15 + double spell level to 10 + damage + spell level (meaning if you take less than 5 + spell level in damage you actually have an easier caster check) its why you dont get the +4 from combat casting (as this means it becomes 1+spell level damage taken to have been better casting defensively)

I blew my defensive casting check (15 + double spell level), DM allowed me to get a spell off (Standard action) got hit with an A.O. for damage. I say let the combat casting bonus apply to the damage taken during a concentration check.

Once you declare you're casting defensively, you don't provoke for casting, period, so no AoO. The casting check roll is only to determine if you lose the spell or not. You could still be attacked during casting if someone had a held action (and have to make a check for any damage you took from that or from ongoing damage).
Your DM is house-ruling to something closer to the way it used to be in a previous edition.
