Craft (Alchemy) Poison rules question? This takes for freaking ever!

I was wondering if I'm doing this right.

Drow Poison, DC 13, cost 750.
7500 SP
To make the math easier I'm going to assume a +13 bonus
@DC 13 it takes 44 "minimum" checks and 17 "maximum" checks.

17 weeks to make a single dose of poison?

Tears of Death : 6500 GP DC 22. Assuming minimum checks of 22 each week, it takes 134 weeks to craft a poison that does 6d6 Con damage over 6 minutes (60 rounds), paralyzing the victim the whole time if he fails his 6 saves. Onset time of a minute, and it is contact (touch attack to apply). If you add 20 to the DC and manage to keep making checks each week, you finish in 36 weeks. These rules are pretty ridiculous. 9 months for a supercrafter to craft a poison that could admittedly kill a normal person very quickly without a save (basically, 22 DC is rough for an average person); but wouldn't do anything to a creature being fought by someone who can consistently make DC 42 checks...

Am I doing something wrong, or is 9 months a reasonable time for a single dose of reasonably awesome poison?


look into the master alchemist feat. it allows you to craft alchemical items using it's gold value rather than it's silver value; thereby making crafting ten times faster.

+2 bonus & Int mod doses at 10x speed for one feat?! Ok... at least someone noticed it took too long...


Master Alchemist and the Alchemist Class speed up Poison Making quite a bit.

Also remember you can add +10 to the DC to craft items faster than normal (per the Craft Entry in the Skills chapter).


Now make that wyvern poison, Bill.


I know this isn't asked for, but my group has house ruled that the base price is 1/10th of the purchase price, assuming buying poisons is either hard or illegal
