I am presently playing as a level 7 summoner in Pathfinder Society organized play, my character now being more than a year old. However, when I made said character, I simply chose a trait that sounded appropriate for her backstory instead of choosing one that suited my intentions for her abilities. I have recently come across a much more suitable trait for her than what I chose at the time of her creation, and so my question is this: Can I, at this point in my character's "life", change or substitute her original trait, which was poorly chosen, for a different trait (that is, entirely get rid of the original trait and replace it with a different one)? I would also like to add that my summoner was, for all intents and purposes, my first character in Pathfinder, so the mistake was entirely unintentional and stemmed from a lack of experience.

Pumyra, I feel your pain (I've been in similar situations) but you're not allowed to make any changes to your character unless specified in the Core Rules (such as a sorcerer swapping spells known at certain levels), or as a result of campaign rules changes that cause your previously-legal character to no longer be legal (such as when Ultimate Combat was released and players had to make changes to their Gunslingers to bring them in line with the final published version of the class.
Edit: this should be really be in the Pathfinder Society section of the messageboards rather than the Rules Questions section.

Technically the answer is no.
Quite frankly though, unless it makes an earth shattering impact on your gameplay, no one is going to check or really care.
You do have a legal option though. You can take the "Additional Traits" feat which lets you add two more traits. The restriction though is that they can't come from categories in which you have chosen traits already.

Jonathan, thank you for moving my thread; I apologize for misplacing it, but I thought that it was appropriately sorted as mine was a rules question. Also, thank you for the info!
LazarX, your suggestion sounds devious! Were I Chelish or Taldane, I might just do it! But, even so, I still might, given the advice I've been given by highly-respected Rocky Mountain DM's in the past. ;)

Well, our system is mostly an honor system. Technically it's cheating. Personally if it were a home game I'd say go for it. I do not, despite what others may think, encourage cheating. I'm a greater good and best practices kind of guy. I would say, "Do what you think is correct," and hope you do the correct thing.

There's cheating and there's letting a player recover from a mistake. I wouldn't call what I'd suggested to Pumyra cheating. That's something I reserve for lying on your die rolls, putting magic items on your character sheet you did not buy, deliberate ignoring of class restrictions, things that severely impact gameplay.

LazarX, I do believe that in the Guide to Organized Play it says you may only purchase the Additional Traits Feat at 1st level.
Actually, it seems to say exactly the opposite.
The only reference I see to Additional Traits is in the Faction Traits section. These start off with boilerplate that says "Members of the <insert name here> faction can take the following campaign traits at character creation or by taking the Additional Traits feature" (my emphasis).
To me, this confirms that as there is no other rule explicitly prohibiting it, Additional Traits can be taken at any time (just as in regular play).
