We all have had things/character/incidents that stick out in our mind that years later we remember. Either a character that one weird kid in HS came over and played and he was just to weird to invite back, but he had a great concept, the guy you met at the comic store who wanted to play a Drow with 2 Scimitars but couldn't prononuce Drizzt, Even your buddy who gamed with you and some other friends who would always ask if he could have his character from the other campaign join your group and you say sure only to have him pull out a lvl 3 character with a +2 flaming dagger and a cloak of aracnidia... Then there are the stories where the GM thought throwing out an Ettin at you would last longer than it did cause your Half-Orc Barbarian with his Double Orc Axe double crits while raging and drunk on Bull's Strength and the DM never gets to attack. The dwarf that couldnt get into the room for the fight cause there were to many people around the doorway so he tries to run through the wall only to knock himself out. The door way that magically shuts evertyme you walk close to it so you tell the orc to throw the halfling (well Gnome, but you get the idea) cuz you think there is a pressure plate trap only to have the orc with 17 STR and the Gnome weiging about 35 lbs get repeatedly thrown to the floor as the orc rolls back to back single digits and nearly kills you. Even listening to Podcasts and having those memorable character like Jim Darkmagic... We have all had memories... I'm curious as to what were some of yours?

In my 1E game, the party was passing through a forest on their way to a dungeon crawl, and I was rolling random encounters. One of the encounters was a dragon. Not as much of a challenge as in later editions, but a dragon's still a dragon, and the party averaged 2nd level. Except in those days, what you rolled was what you got.
So the dragon just flew overhead, low enough that he could check out the party, but obviously not interested in attacking them.
I was picking up the dice to roll the next encounter chance when the party mage cast a spook spell. In 1E, even an ancient red dragon didn't have spell resistance.
So I rolled a saving throw, and the die came up a 1. The dragon lit out in a panic.
...and returned the following round about as angry as a dragon can be, heading for a TPK.
The mage cast an illusion of herself running through the woods, and the dragon, being angry, had no reason to disbelieve. So he came down to line up a breath attack that would get as many members of the party as he could, while obliterating the mage.
In sheer desperation, even as he was berating the mage for her stupidity, the cleric cast a command spell: "Sleep!".
And the saving throw came up 1.
The dragon hit the ground and the party swarmed it. Even at maximum hit dice, an ancient red dragon only had 88 hp. Before the one round of helplessness was over, the dragon was dead.
My only consolation was that the dragon's treasure hoard was in a cave somewhere in the mountains, and the party had no idea where it was.

Some of our characters recently died (8 Shock Lizards in a surprise round) so we needed to build new 5th lvl characters. This is how I opened his introduction.
A rather large man walked in the inn wearing a Wizard's hat, robes that were two sizes too small and carrying a Spellbook and Quarterstaff.
Assuming I'm a wizard build, the party decides to run me through trials (along with the other character to join, a rogue) to see if he can make it in the party. I only had to pass one test. First came the test of strength. we were told to lift, then throw a log. Whoever gets farthest wins.
I stepped up when it was my turn and told the party "With my 19 Strength I easily pick up the log and toss." The party is flabbergasted, a wizard with 19 strength?
Next was the test of Magic. My character is to hit a can with a magic missile. He reached into a bag and muttered some words and a bright tiny sized object flew out of his hand. It missed of course. Magic missile can't hit Inanimate Objects, as I informed the party.
Next test was combat. I was to fight the Ranger in the party and if I could defeat him with a nonlethal Weapon I won. The ranger got the first hit in. I then told him "I grip the longsword in two hands, Activate Rage, then Power Attack." After the first hit, ranger gave up.
At this point everyone is really confused. I then explained my Characters Backstory.
He was from a barbarian clan that believed you gained the power of the enemies that you defeated in battle. He beat many barbarians in battle, making him an amazing barbarian. One day, He killed a wizard and took his name.
Now, Mervin Stormcrow the Wizard (actually a 5th lvl Barbarian) Has joined the party. Oh, the Magic Missile? Mervin carries a bag of rocks.
TLDR: Barbarian character Pretending to be a Wizard and the Party can't prove that he's not.
