Sorry tried searching but did not see this aspect come up.
This is hopefully a simple question to get answered:
from APG36
"Whenever an order of the lion cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by the target of the challenge. This bonus increases +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses"
(similar statements are made for other orders)
Reading that I would think at level 1 he gets +1 and then every four levels another +1... ie
1:+1, 5:+2, 9:+3, 13:+4; 17:+5
Although talking to someone else they assumed it meant
1:+1, 8:+2, 12:+3, 16:+4, 20:+5
This seems bizarre to me to have it so spread out at the beginning and the +5 only hitting on level 20.
A third suggestion has been voiced, but immediately rebuffed which was at 4 you were +2 (something I think is absolutely wrong); and that it will be one of above. Personally I think the top one of the two displayed.
Anyone got any thoughts/official ruling on how to read?

It's actually the third one:
1:+1, 4:+2, 8:+3, 12:+4; 16:+5; 20:+6
Most other class abilities say "every X levels beyond Y", where Y is the level the ability is first gained.
The few abilities that just say "every X levels" mean what they say. A fourth-level cavalier has +1 plus an additional +1 for having four cavalier levels, for a total bonus of +2.

As a slight bit of evidence to the contrary to the third progression idea the order of the blue rose reads as capping at 17
"Challenge: Whenever an order of the blue rose cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls made against the target of his challenge, if the target is an intelligent creature to whom the cavalier offered the chance to surrender (by taking a standard action to offer terms). This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses (to a maximum of +5 at 17th level)."
And Knight errant reads as capping at +5 at 20.
Morbid curiosity guys what's going on with the format and which should it be? Mind you I'm operating under the idea that the bonuses would be reasonably consistent through the orders do to the format similarities.
