Question for anyone please Help

I was asked by a fellow Pathfinder Player about multiclassing into the same base class [take Fighter for instance] but having a different Variant. I thought I had read you cannot but I can't remember where it says you cannot [or can and I misread] Thanks to all!

You are correct, you can not do this, though I'm not sure where it says this.

However, even if you could, all your variant classes would revert to the same thing, and you can not take two variants (archtype?) that alter the same thing.

Is this in regards to society play or general?

If it's with regards to society play, the new Guide to Organized Play says yes, so long as the new archetype you take doesn't replace an ability you already have/has already been replaced.

For a home game, that's up to the GM.

You can not. Its in the apg under where it talks about archetypes.

Alternate Class Features so yes you may.

Either I'm reading this wrong, or you all are.

I think they are asking if you can, for example Be a Cleriof Iori 2, and then Multiclass into Cleric of Iomedae 3. Or better example, Urban Druid 5/Druid 2.

While you can take multiple Archetypes if none of them conflict with each other, you can still only take a specific CLASS more than once.

So no, your friend cannot be a (for instance) a Paladin (undead scourge) Level 3 and multiclass into Paladin (warrior of the holy light) Level 1.

He could, however, be a Paladin (undead scourge AND warrior of the holy light) Level 4.

Most Fighter archetypes replace the same things, so that usually isn't an option.

Right, you can take more than one archetype, but you have to decide on your archetypes when you make the character to begin with, even if you don't swap out any abilities at 1st level.

That has nothing to do with multi-classing into the same class more than once.
