Any way to reduce the Area of a spell?

Advice

Sometimes the area that a spell affects is too large and want it reduced. Besides researching a new version of spell, is there any way to reduce the area of its affect?

Example:

Fireball a 10-foot radius instead of the default 20-foot radius

I don't know of such a way. There is a feat in the APG that allows you to make sure certain people within the area don't get hit, but I think that is it.

The feat is selective spell, IIRC.

In 95% of situations you can avoid problems by simply positioning a spell properly. If there were such a feat or ability, I can think of nary a situation in which it would be truly useful.

Cast it high so the centre of the sphere is 10ft/15ft/20ft up in the air depending on ground radius required.

Or just accept the fact that collateral damage happens.
