Cohort level VS CR?

Rules Questions

Sczarni

When they say "cohort level" in table 5-2, do they realy mean level or overall HD or CR?

To make my question clearer i want to create a level 8 cohort wich will be half-celestial.

The half-celestial template says that between 6-10 HD the base creature get a +2 CR

So what is the real level 8 cohort in these 2 exemple?:

#1 half-celestial cleric level 8 = CR 10

#2 half-celestial cleric level 6 = CR 8

Cohort level means character level. CR is not considered for that table. How templates affect cohorts is up to your GM. My ruling would be to add Cr adjustment to Character Level for cohort level though :P

In a home-game, we add the +CR to the cohort/followers - basically using your #2 example. For example, in 3.5, my epic druid had an 8th level follower, who was a unicorn, CR 8, with no class levels.

I don't know if there is an official ruling on this, though.

If I am not mistaken, class levels generally give a CR of Class levels - 1. Therefore, a CR 8 is equivalent to a character level of 9. But every GM has to make his own determinations :P
