Literacy and linguistics questions

Rules Questions

Hi,

New to Pathfinder but an old hat at Pen and Paper RPGs.

I have a few questions about languages, literacy and the Linguistics skill.

Do you need to have Linguistics in order to read and write?

I would assume yes. I would assume the illiteracy is the norm in your standard Medieval-based fantasy setting, even if you can speak multiple languages.

In the description of INT statistic it says "...you can still read and speak your racial languages..." but does that mean your character can speak and read at the start of the game, any languages they know?

Seems to me that literacy should be a separate skill or feat in an average fantasy setting.

In Pathfinder characters are capable of speaking and reading/writing all languages they know. In 3.0 and 3.5 characters were capable of speaking and reading/writing all languages they knew except for Barbarian and other classes that had illiteracy class feature.

You are assumed to be fully literate in every language you can speak, unless you're a True Primitive Barbarian, in which case you can never learn how to read or write.
