Remove Curse (spell) clarification

Rules Questions

The descriptive text mentions that, if the target is a creature, a caster level check is required to remove the curse. It also states that remove curse counters and dispels bestow curse.

So, wouldn't that mean that the caster level check is only required when the source of the curse is something other than the spell bestow curse? Since, for example, haste counters and dispells slow automatically, wouldn't it be the same?

It came up during a session and I ruled that, since the source was the specific spell, then remove curse could take effect without a check. Is there an official ruling saying otherwise?

Thanks in advance!

That is how I am reading it also due to this line.

Spells with Opposite Effects: Spells with opposite effects apply normally, with all bonuses, penalties, or changes accruing in the order that they apply. Some spells negate or counter each other. This is a special effect that is noted in a spell's description.

Right, there's that too. Thanks :)

A few questions...that probably don't have definitive answers in the book but am curious how others handled this...

Quote:

Remove curse can remove all curses on an object or a creature. If the target is a creature, you must make a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) against the DC of each curse affecting the target. Success means that the curse is removed. Remove curse does not remove the curse from a cursed shield, weapon, or suit of armor, although a successful caster level check enables the creature afflicted with any such cursed item to remove and get rid of it.

Remove curse counters and dispels bestow curse.

Quote:
Succeeding on a Saving Throw: A creature that successfully saves against a spell that has no obvious physical effects feels a hostile force or a tingle, but cannot deduce the exact nature of the attack. Likewise, if a creature's saving throw succeeds against a targeted spell, you sense that the spell has failed. You do not sense when creatures succeed on saves against effect and area spells.

1) If the target creature has multiple curses, let's say 3 curses... does the caster make 1 caster level check that goes up against all 3 curses, or 3 caster level checks (1 per curse)?

2) It seems like the caster will know if the spell fails on a target creature, but what if it removes 2 curses but fails to remove the 3rd curse... does the caster sense 1 failure but not the 2 successes?

1. The caster makes one caster level check per curse (so 3 total in your case).

2. That line doesn't really apply to remove curse, as there's no saving throw against remove curse (well, unless the recipient doesn't want his/her curses to be removed). I would say that the caster would know both how many curses he removed, and how many curses remain.

The Exchange

Received a curse at requires a limited wish, wish or miracle to remove. Without spoilers, if I have to use the a limited wish, or wish - can I instead change the condition from a baneful one to a beneficial one?

SPOILER - The curse provides SR to beneficial spells being cast (I assume either by me or by someone else).

My thinking is - if a limited wish can remove the curse, then a limited wish should be able to change the condition of the curse from beneficial to baneful effects.

Using the logic of least amount of power used (that old adage when dealing with such magic, easier to teleport a magic sword than to create one). In my case I am removing the entire magic just changing the conditions. Honestly, I think I do not hold any hope to gain such a BOON in the PFS.

Additionally, how would potions or wand effects work? I am guessing they either work, or they are calculated by the minimum creation level, CL3 for potions and CL5 (or >) for wands depending on the spell to provide a base number to add to d20 to overcome the SR.

Personally, I just going to spent the Prestige Points to have it removed, Still I like the ideal of twisting a curse into something worthwhile using the same power listed to remove it.
