Familiars?

Rules Questions

I am a level 9 druid. I noticed something about familiars but I don't know much about them. It says in my beastiary that a Compy(dinosaur) can be a familiar. Can a druid have a familiar because I'm a caster? What kinds are there and is this one good.

Casters don't automatically get familiars. Familiars are a class feature of certain classes, like wizards and (I believe) witchs. Druids don't get familiars.

Wizards, Witches, and Arcane Bloodlined Sorcerers get familiars. That's about it. However, the Druid does have a pretty sweet selection of animal companions to choose from.

There is a wierd way to get familiars for a druid by some of the druid domains in ultimate magic.

Also Blight druids from the APG can take a familiar.

And anyone with high enough Charisma and feats to burn can get one through Eldritch Heritage

Shadow Lodge

My Saurian Shaman is going to be taking Eldritch Heritage and getting that compy familiar. He already took Skill Focus (Knowledge(nature)) at first, so just need another level and its mine for a +13 initiative. :D

Nice :D

Rule of thumb if it doesn't say you get a familiar you don't get one. Some archetypes can get them but you'd have to do some investigation to find it. Though for the archetype you'd have to retrain your class levels to do that.

If he's still looking for advice for 5 years now you just gave a great response.
