Intimidation. You carve something into someone's forehead and tell them if they don't do exactly what you demand, you'll finish the rite and their head will explode in a frothing sea of salmon.
Bluff. The murdered victim cursed their killer just before dying and you will now "reveal" who dunnit.
Disguise. Clearly you can't be the Bandit of Bugadugaroo... she's known to have a massive scar from chin to beady eye. Your face is pristine... right now.
Basically it's not something you use in combat. Generally. But it's something that has a lot of potential for manipulating circumstances outside of combat. If you're clever enough, you can change the rules of the game, making combat not ever happen, or not include you.

With my profond apologies to Edwinn Star.
Scar, huh, yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Uh-huh
Scar, huh, yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it again, y'all
Scar, huh, good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Listen to me
Ohhh, scar, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives;
Scar means tears
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives!
I said, scar, huh
Good God, y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it again
Sar, whoa, Lord
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Listen to me
Scar, it ain't nothing
But a heartbreaker
Scar, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, scar
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of scar blows my mind
Scar has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, Scar-huh!
Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it, say it, say it
Scar, huh!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Listen to me

It just sounded like something typical from fantasy and mythology that a witch would do.
