How to Start

Local Play

Grand Lodge

Hi there.
I am thinking about starting a regular Pathfinder Society meeting in our store.
Of course I will start with the free intro but where should I go from there?
Season 0 looks to me to be really old and not up to date with the current rules.
Am I wrong and should I start with season 1 or what else would you recomment?

Definitely start with the "First Steps" series (from early in year 3).

Definitely this. First steps does a very good job of explaining what the society is and what the 10 factions stand for.

Season 0 an have difficulties converting from 3.5 to PF rules, mostly CR mismatches. The scenarios also tend to be on the easy side as PF PCs are more powerful than 3.5 PCs.

That said, my group had great fun running Tide of Morning and Tide of Twilight back to back.

After First Steps, play We Be Goblins!

@Fromper:
I love We be Goblins, it is a really great scenario and i am happy that i got one from the free rpg day.
But I thought that the regular PS meetings should be campaigns and I see We be Goblins more as an one shot. Especially as the characters are far from what is normal.
Is it even allowed in the PS community? I think goblins are evil and i remember from the rules that we are not allowed to play evil characters.

@Welby:
I think i will do so, so everybody can get used to it.

@Kelly:
I don't like my games to be to easy for the players.
I think I will skip Season 0 than and start wit season 1 after the intoductory ones.

Is there a time schedule that has proven itself good?
As I am working I am not sure how often game sessions would be possible.
I am thinking once a month might be working out.
How often do you play?

I'd play at least a few of the season 0 scenarios, as they introduce NPC's and locations that will continue to be used in the future: Grandmaster Torch, The Blackros Museum, The Aspis Consortium (I LOVE those guys!) The Rogue Shadow Lodge. Several people have built PFS campaigns out of these aspects of the story. Here is a good guide to some of them:

Depending on other play opportunities, once or twice a month seems to be a good frequency for most players. Your Hardcore players will want more often, but your casual players won't feel so pressured to keep up. Of course the HC players will find other venues (cons, other stores, home games) and your casuals may miss an event or two, but that will keep you busy without burning through scenarios too quickly.

Out of Season 0 I would personally recommend

Mists of Mwangi -- as I'm pretty sure it has been converted and is the starter to a 4 parter (in so far as 4 scenarios with the same location)

Black Waters -- cause it's kinda creepy ;)

Among the Living -- prequel to Among the Gods from Season 3

The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch -- he's becoming a pivotal character in the next seasons, so an intro to him is always good

Fingerprint of the Fiend -- prequel to Fury of the Fiend in season 2

Tide of Morning -- I think it's tied to Tide of Twilight in season 3

From there go on to season 2 and 3 scenarios

My local group has one gameday a month (3rd Saturday) and generally runs 2 slots starting at 10am.

You're allowed to play We Be Goblins as a one shot adventure and apply the credit to a normal Pathfinder Society character.

That is great.
I will definately play it after the introductory scenarios.
With the new pathfinder miniatures I believe it will be really funny. :)

@Fluffy: Thanks for the recomendations.

Anybody else got some, or wants to share in which order he played the scenarios?
I am happy for everything I can get. :)

Mark Garringer posted a nice scenario list with a kind of story arc.

You can find it here: Pathfinder Society Module Selection

Although it is a little out of date.

I started organizing Society play at our local game store a couple years ago. It is coming along quite nicely. We regularly run 3 slots of at least 3 tables each slot over two Sundays a month. And occasionally we have pick up games on off Sundays.

Good Luck

Edit: Looks like Grolloc posted the same link order a pseudonym, oops.

I was totally overwhelmed with the whole event.
On our normal roleplaying nights we have 3-4 people.
Last Friday I had 12 people who wanted to try pathfinder.
I was the only GM so I had to send halve of them home with the promise that I will have an additional Pathfinder Night with them next week.
It was really fun, but also exausting.
Having so many players new to roleplaying and/or pathfinder.
I think the next time I will copy the pregenerated characters to a real character sheet, because the original preconstructed ones where confusing for everybody.
Also I think about using the beginners box for future events.
All in all it was a success and I am looking forward to next month. :)

Lol! And congrats!

Welcome to the world of PFS local coordination! w00t!

Sounds like it was an excellent event, Jan, even if it wasn't perfect.

It takes time to build a community and get people on board.

Don't be shy about pushing people to aid you in your judging efforts. Don't try to take the load on yourself...start asking others now to step up and do the best they can now. It will be much easier to train them to think like judges/contributors now than later.

Best of luck.

p.s. This post may or may not help you with your local coordination duties.

Along the same lines there is THIS THREAD. Scroll down to the posts by VinceMadrox for the win.

I reported the Event.
Most of the players didn't want to keep the pregens or could not decide a name.
So I left the fields blank, like the fraction thing.
I hope that was ok.

You can always go back and correct it.
