Angels and damage

Rules Questions

Another silly question:
Why do angels do more extra damage than their Strenght bonus + weapon bonus would allow? Example: The Astral Deva does 1d8+14 with a +2 warhammer, and its Str bonus is +8 - where do the 4 extra points come from? It's an Average Damage for Monsters issue, or what?

Is the weapon being used two handed? I'd think that was the most likely explanation

Two handed!

Two-handed weapons add 1.5x STR modifier to damage rather than 1x STR modifier, which amounts to exactly the extra 4 points :)

Two-Handed: Two hands are required to use a two-handed melee weapon effectively. Apply 1-1/2 times the character's Strength bonus to damage rolls for melee attacks with such a weapon.

Argh. I was sure that it was something like this. Thanks.
I was fooled by the weapon description... morningstars and warhammers are one-handed weapons, after all.

They are, but without shield, second weapon or being a magus there is no point in not wielding them in two hands.
