Power Attack and Knockdown

Rules Questions

Does the damage added by Power Attack add to the damage done by the Rage Power Knockdown?

Sovereign Court

It clearly states 'trip attack against one target in place of a melee attack', 'damage equal to the barbarian's Strength modifier'.
I would assume this is a -substitution- for the Improved Trip feat (no attack of opportunity but with a once per rage limitation). And I guess you could take Improved Trip and Greater Trip and then knockdown foes for Str dmg + damage caused by your attack of opportunity.

The reason I ask is because Power Attack (Combat)is listed as;

You can make exceptionally deadly melee attacks by sacrificing accuracy for strength.

And Knockdown says;
Once per rage, the barbarian can make a trip attack against one target in place of a melee attack. If successful, the target takes damage equal to the barbarian’s Strength modifier and is knocked prone.

Thus, Since a Trip is rolled as a melee attack against CMD, and Power Attack modifies all melee attacks, and Knockdown allows you to add your str modifier as damage...could you not add the str damage added by P Att to Knockdown?

That wouldn't work... as the ability specifically spells out the amount of damage (Strength modifier), if the attack did normal weapon damage (+ all normal modifiers)plus caused a trip then power attack would be added in, as it reads the only damage that gets inflicted is equal to the barbarians strength bonus.

If the barbarian power attacked int he same round he used this though he would still take the attack penalty from power attack (and not get the extra damage).
