Easy question about weapon damage

Beginner Box

No wonder I've always felt so underpowered... I don't think I'm adding the right things to my weapon damage rolls...

could somebody tell me what I add exactly? Is a +1 longsword different from a masterwork longsword? How?

So what do I add if I wield a longsword? Greatsword? Longbow? Composite Shortbow?

A masterwork weapon adds a +1 to your to-hit rolls.

A +1 weapon has adds a +1 to both your to-hit and damage rolls. It also overcomes DR/magic.

The bonus to damage is in addition to the strength bonus of the wielder.

So, a longsword +1 is 1d8+1 instead of 1d8, for example.

thanks for clearing that up c:

Melee weapons add strength to damage.
Thrown weapons add strength to damage.
Crossbows add nothing to damage.
Composite Longbows add strength to damage if they've been created to do so. [eg - You get a strength rating on the bow, the downside of that is that you have a penalty to use a bow that's stronger than you are]

Without a feat, nothing adds dex to damage.

What feat adds DEX to damage? I'm aware of Weapon Finesse, which adds DEX to hit and I'm aware of the Agile magic weapon special ability which lets you add DEX to weapon damage rolls. I'm also aware of one or two class abilities that let you do that but I'm not aware of a feat that lets you add DEX to damage.

I may have overlooked it, can you cite it?

There isn't a feat in the BB that allows you to add Dex to damage.

Ah, sorry, yes, Bob is correct. Those feats are not in the beginner's box.

3 ways to add dex to damage, none of these are available in the BB

  • Gunslinger's gun training class feature (fire arms only)
  • Agile weapon special ability (finessable weapons only)
  • Dervish Dance feat in the Inner Sea World Guide (scimitars only)

  • Scarab Sages

    Pathfinder Society Field Guide.

Do note that for the Spiked Chain/Elven Curve Blade/Whip you still only get x1 dex modifier despite two handing it and when you TWF with an agile weapon in your offhand you get x.5 dex modifier on your offhand
