Hey all, been dark on this for a bit and feel its overdue for an update. Here's the skinny: everything is as previously discussed except its taking longer than expected.
The FaSB manuscript was not sent to me in the condition I'd hoped, and I spent a lot of cycles cleaning it up. Then I decided it was just taking too long and decided to hire some help and divvy up the labor. So now I've got someone special working on FasB, which frees me to turn my attention to finishing The KUG.
The KUG ran into a snag when one of the authors informed me they'd taken their intellectual property and moved onto to other things with it. The author had some darn cool stuff that I didn't want to lose, so we took a bit hashing out a licensing agreement that lets his work remain in the KUG. Phew. Disaster averted.
Finally I confirmed that I have a spectacular, award-winning layout artist willing to dedicate her time to these projects. That's a relief.
Still not ready to offer time frames, but when I do I'll offer them here.
Summary:
1. Hired help with whom to divvy up the labor
2. Ironed out a licensing deal for KUG content
3. Secured layout commitments
4. Am turning my brain to the last bits of the KUG as editor and writer, both.
A few questions for the community:
1. Anyone know a good cartographer for star maps?
2. The KUG has a lot of material. Enough to separate out a small bestiary. Alienary? Would people prefer to see monsters and aliens (defined as sentient and non-sentient, respectively) in their own little book are as part of the setting book? Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks!
More updates when I have 'em.

Hi Louis, thanks for the update.
I don’t know of any good cartographers for star maps ... I seem to remember that some of the Alternity (Star Drive) products had some good maps, might be worth looking up some of those cartographers?
If there are some aliens that are a really integral / important part of the setting then I would prefer to have them in the main book, but if you have enough good material for a separate bestiary type book beyond that, I would say go for it!

Depends on how much work you want to do for KuG, but you might want to look at NBOS software's AstroSynthesis program. It's not all that expensive, and it can literally build entire galaxies in it, keep track of the planets around the stars, the star types, the populations, the planet types, interstellar trade routes, solar system maps, 2D maps, 3D maps, travel calculations, etc.
If you want to use the Milky Way, you can find files that have the local milkyway, complete with SOL, Alpha Centauri, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, mdt. I own AstroSynthesis and have made some starmaps for the KUG with it. It's a great tool; however, for me its very time consuming, as I'm not an Astrosynthesis expert. I'm more a words-before-pictures kind of guy. ;)
Looking to hire the skill set to divide the labor and speed things up.

I was surprised to see that Nick would be a guest at Paizocon for the Runelords anniversary.
Any word at all from him regarding plans for/the status of Razor Coast?
Unless Nick comes up with an answer for that before the con, I anticipate that he'll have to answer the same question time and again.
The ultimate, only-in-our-dreams response would involve an announcement of a paizo release: seems highly unlikely but, y'know, that's what dreams are for.

SWEET!!! I will have to check out that program sometime.

An important announcement about how to get your money back from Sinister Adventures.

Scorned is currently number 2 in my queue behind an adventure by Dane Pitchford (also of these messageboards) called "Curse of Shadowhold" that I'm nearly done with development on. I'm still finishing out the last bits on Tsar also, but Scorned is definitely a 2012 release, and maybe even a summer release depending on how fast things go through the printer.
Will "Curse of Shadowhold" be sold through Paizo? I notice it's up at DriveThru.
(Apologies for necro'ing a barely related thread, this was the only search result)
