so starting a new game and the GM will let me play a catfolk from B3 now I need to come up with what class to play. First the details
players 6 constant with one occasional.
other characters:
Sylph rogue
human wizard
half-elf fighter (don't know if he will be ranged or CC)
human cleric
human alchemist
the occasional player will be a ranger don't know the race.
will be level 3
I have usually played a rakish type character and might like to try something new but not sold due to the race.
GM was trying to talk me into a gunslinger but don't want to go that route.
as it sits right now I was thinking of ninja but the cat seems to obvious after the fact.
any ideals on what would be fun to play with this race?

Flavor-wise, I'd go for a Witch or Barbarian.
A Black-fur Catfolk Witch with a cat familiar? Throwing hexes on enemies for crossing your path? I think yes. Great flavor here. In fact, I think I might have to make that character now.
I'd go Barbarian if your fighter goes ranged, just for balance. You could have your character be feral, maybe borderline rabies-infested, to represent rage.
Not familiar with the catfolk, so I'm not sure what stats it favors, but I hope that gave you some ideas for character concept.

Couple of ideas. Due to the size of your party, it's going to be hard not to step on someone's toes, at least lightly. You're going to overlap at some point.
1) Rogue/Ninja. As you stated, the race has a natural aptitude for both. The Ninja won't be stepping on the existing Rogue's toes for the most part. Also could be the 'face' of the party, if the other Rogue is not going that route.
2) Barbarian. Yes, it seems wierd at first, but, imagine a big burly tiger type cat, not the slinky svelte one in the book. No strength penalty, and you get the bonus to movement, which would stack with the barbarian movements. :) Plus you don't step on too many toes (and you're kind of melee light in this party).
3) Monk. Similar to the barbarian, faster movement, better AC. This is a hard one though, due to the wisdom penalty, but if you go with a Martial Artist. The +1 Dex mod cancels out the -1 Wis mod for AC. You could even go with a mostly Str/Dex monk this way.
4) Oracle of Flames. Again, incorporating on increased movement. Combine with armor, 3/4 BAB, and the ability to rain down fire, and you turn into an excellent mobile artillery. Just don't combine with blind or lame. :) Note, Cinder Dance is a great revelation for this.
5) Summoner. I hate the class, but you can do a major amount of damage with it, and also due to the ability to reconfigure the eidelon, you can shore up any weaknesses, or modify your companion to take out enemies depending on what you're running into. You can really amp up the power going synthesis summoner.

Well the group has all the bases covered so you can play the odd man out PC.
Monk (master of many styles)
- Tiger style
- Panther style
Stay with the race flavor
Then go PRC - Shadow Dancer
Or
Take a level of Sorc and go Dragon Disciple for a real interesting flavor. Since the team covered everything you can really go wild.

Paladin, or anti-paladin, if allowed. A good theme would be a noble savage, a champion of the wilderness. Also, the stat mods are workable with the class.
Oh yeah, how cool would a lion paladin be?? I wouldn't care at all about stats just for the awesomeness of the concept, and stats are actually not that bad!
I love catfolks, really great flavor: I'm currently playing a jaguar-like ranger and I love it. Another player is playing a housecat-like rogue and it's cool too. Tiger-like barbarian would look good too but I'd ask to reshape the stat bonuses.

With the game being tomorrow I have sat down with the GM and I have a catfolk Cavalier taking mounted archery role. My mount is currently a jaguar but when I get higher level the GM is allowing it to go dire.one last question a mongol recurve bow would be the equivalant of a composite short bow correct?

I have a thing for rangers lately. So it might just be my bias. Take the archery path and use a two handed melee weapon. This makes you all around versitile on the battlefield. Do as much as you can to get mobility feats. You can be on the frontline easily, provide a primary target so the rogue can always flank, you can get some cover and rain down arrows.
Straight fighter who uses a spiked chain.
