House Arkona subplot (spoilers, players stay out)

Curse of the Crimson Throne

My players took everything Glorio told them at face value. Rescued the prisoners, and departed after slaying Virmanda. They know Glorio is what he is and plan to return later to deal with him.

My question is, or rather my request is, what the heck should I do with Glorio? He knows they have defeated Virmanda and escaped and that his cover is gone.

Since the PC's still havent found out about the gift he can continue to monitor their moves.

Overall, I think Glorio will conintue to watch the PC's. He still cant challange the queen directly so he needs his pawns, sucessful so far, to continue. Then when the time is right he can trump in for the victory.

If the PC's challenge him directly before that he will evade battle.

Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

It seems to me that above all Glorio wanted to keep his true nature a secret. I would think that he would move to eliminate the PCs right away. He would probably be taking steps to get out of the city if his secret became widely known and might be planning to fake his death and transfer power to a distant Arkona heir (himself in another disguise).

At the very least he would be watching the PCs incessantly and would be prepare to move against them immediately if they showed any signs of revealing his secret or acting against him in any way. I think he is very cautious and while he would be loath to lose the progress he has made in Korvosa, he wouldn't put himself or his wealth at risk to do so.

Good thoughts Sweater Golem. Thanks

I've seen a few comments in other areas about this particular issue.

The AP says he'll keep monitoring them, trying to get any info he can that will help further his goals (killing anyone who knows his true nature and deposing the Queen to become King of Korvosa). He will also re-take control of Old Korvosa (if Pilts is dead) and solidify his presence there.

If the PCs have no contact with Korvosa after their escape, I would have Glorio contact Cressidia to support her in her defection from the guard and aid in her efforts to prepare the revolution. Make him invaluable to the NPCs while he plots how to fix the PCs. Yet he wants his efforts to be a secret, telling Croft not to mention it to anyone, including the PCs. She doesn't mention it, maybe they'll have forgotten in all the hubub to mention it to Cressidia next time they see her/speak to her.

Is there a spell to wipe someone's memory of a specific set of events? If he's shifty enough, he can work on each PC individually, modifying their memories of what happened in House Arkona to not include anything bad about Glorio himself. After he sees them meet Sial, he can approach the cleric and ask for his help in doing so as well. He has some spells himself, and has the resources to utilize others.

Final approach - he needs Ileosa out of the way, but can't have the PCs telling anyone about him, so he secretly follows them to the final battle, and ensures they get offed after they exhaust themselves getting rid of all that mess.

A fun twist I saw on the messageboards was one GM actually had Bahor pop in on the PCs immediately after the end of Chapter 5, stole a particular sword from them, and used it as leverage against them for cooperation.

All interesting stuff, but I totally don't expect my plans to fool the party into thinking Glorio or Vimanda is innocent to work, so I haven't really tried plotting that far ahead.
