New player...character ideas...and races...

Pathfinder Society

Greets,

So im very new to the "society" idea of gaming..and so far i like it. But in my searching i have failed to see if i could officially play an 'off' race.

I have a strange idea for a goblin character. As i LOVE the art and feel of them in pathfinder.

Is this doable? or too left field for 'society' ?

Thanks for the time and help.

I have a feeling that Pathfinder Society does NOT allow unusual races like goblinoids or homebrew races to be played in Society games. Hell, if they would, I would so be playing one of my own races.

The only races (currently) available are the ones in the core rule book and those obtained by specific boons granted through special events/conventions.

There is talk that they may be allowing some other races once the advanced races book comes out, but we won't know until that time comes.

Ok..

Well, while not killing any of my dreams..it does change some ideas for characters.

Thanks for the input.

No problem.

Believe me, it may seem a tad limiting, but at the same time, I've seen some incredible (and hilarious) characters crop up regardless of race. Race, though important and definitely a major feature of a character, shouldn't be the biggest defining trait (at least, IMO).

Sort of branching out here, but has there been any talk about Warforged being brought to Golarion (Reading thread and seeing Jack kinda brought that to mind)

Numeria, gearmen. That is all.

Unfortunately, I do believe that Warforged are licensed WotC intellectual property, and not OGL, so it's not likely that the race will see Pathfinder. At least, not as it is presented in Eberron.

With the Mana-Wastes being a fairly steampunk-y area, though, I think it's reasonable to expect to see more intelligent/independent construct-like things that may be playable as far as home-games.

I can understand wanting to run a goblin - in a insane sort of way. I sat down and crafted a halfling rogue PC, named her Da Goblin and modeled her after PF Goblins. (she thinks she's a goblin sometimes - she's going to be a lot of fun to play). I think I should have done her as a Gnome - it would have been even more funny. Kind of a Gnome skin head punk.
You might want to try something like that too. If enough of us do it, maybe we can start a PC "Goblin" tribe, meet up at a big con and do a couple adventures together. Kind of We Be Goblins - but NOT!

If you play through the sanctioned module "We Be Goblins!" you'll do so using a pregenerated Goblin character. Additionally, it gives you a Chronicle sheet that you can apply to a 1st or 2nd level character, and includes a boon that gives you bonuses to some goblin-related skill checks.

So if you want to play a halfling/gnome who thinks he's a goblin, that might help. ;)

"Don't give me a fake X when the real X exists". I will never stop using that line.

Frostfur Captives is another great goblin scenario. In this one, your team needs to safely escort a group of goblins across the snow from one contact to their drop-off-point. You play your regular PFS character, not goblins, but nonetheless, hilarity ensues!

We Be Goblins! and Frostfur Captives make great back-to-back scenarios for a weekend of goblin madness! Highly recommended.

Especially if your GM does the really fun thing and lets you play your character and a goblin at the same time. It makes for some truly hilarious situations.
