Can you create a wondrous item from a scroll? For example if I wanted to create Natural Armor Amulet but did not have Barksin on my list, could I cast it from a scroll?

I do not think a scroll would work but here is an excerpt on magic item creation

Prd wrote:
Note that all items have prerequisites in their descriptions. These prerequisites must be met for the item to be created. Most of the time, they take the form of spells that must be known by the item's creator (although access through another magic item or spellcaster is allowed). The DC to create a magic item increases by 5 for each prerequisite the caster does not meet. The only exception to this is the requisite item creation feat, which is mandatory. In addition, you cannot create potions, spell-trigger, or spell-completion items without meeting its prerequisites.

EDIT: Does a scroll count as a magic item?

Yes, you can use a scroll. However:

Quote:
If spells are involved in the prerequisites for making the item, the creator must have prepared the spells to be cast (or must know the spells, in the case of a sorcerer or bard) but need not provide any material components or focuses the spells require. The act of working on the item triggers the prepared spells, making them unavailable for casting during each day of the item's creation. (That is, those spell slots are expended from the caster's currently prepared spells, just as if they had been cast.)

You would need 1 scroll for each day the item takes to create. So 2 scrolls for a +1 amulet, or 50 scrolls for a +5.

Thanks guys!!

Or you could just take a +5 to the crafting DC for not having barkskin and be done with that.

If you don't have a spell on your spell list, chances are you can't cast it from a scroll either.

That's true for prepared casters but not for spontaneous casters.

It is true for spontaneous casters as well. A character's spell list is something different than his known spells. A character's spell list is the list of all spells available to his class, regardless of if he can actually cast the spell.

Yes that's correct, i was mistaken because i frequently use the term spell list for the spells known, prepared spells and such.
