Dear diary,
today I am yet again faced with a question of a player who wants a +2 flaming longsword. However will I be able to determine the price?

Anyway, what is the correct calculation?
Longsword = 15 gp
Masterwork = 300 gp
+1 Bonus = 2 000 gp
+2 Bonus = 8 000 gp
+3 Bonus = 18 000 gp
Flaming = +1 bonus
I think we can all agree on the longsword + masterwork, so base price is 315 gp
Then...
...
...
Option A:
MW Longsword 315 gp
+2 Bonus = 8000 gp
Flaming = 2000 gp
---------------->>> 10 315 gp
Option B:
MW Longsword 315 gp
+2 Bonus AND +1 (Flaming) = +3 Bonus = 18 000 gp
---------------->>> 18 315 gp
FLAME ON!!
But please tell me it option B.. ^^

Calculating the price of a magic weapon is simple :
Base price of the weapon + Masterwork price + Total enhancement price.
In your case, Longsword, 15 GP + Masterwork 300 GP + (+3) Weapon, 18000 = 18 315.
As a quick note, if the player ever wants to upgrade this weapon to a +4 equivalent (as an example), it would cost him the price of the +4 weapon minus the price of his actual weapon. So, 32000 - 18315 = 13685.
Also, don't be afraid of a flaming weapon. 1d6 elemental damage is ridiculously bad on average because of numerous Fire resistances/immunities on mid-to-high levels monsters, which a +3 weapon wielder probably is already facing.

Juste a minor correction.
This is : 32315 - 18315 = 14 000 GP to upgrade the weapon to a +4 equivalent.
