I'm looking for suggestions on item ideas for my party to gather.

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

In short, in my game, my party members will be more or less used by good and evil forces from time to time to find special items, or they may find it and some shopkeepers they use to dump their loot might see particular interest in something.

I'm looking for magic things, but also for items that have no real value, but can hold a special historical value or sentimental. Like for example a favorite item of a god from when he was a mortal, so say Cayden Cailean's favorite beer mug. Or perhaps, at a higher level, a pit fiend/tarrasque/whatever big creature's pineal gland. All of these items have story line use as spell component for a huge freaking spell.

And so, as I was saying, would anyone have suggestions on items of interest that could be gotten from people of any level? I plan for this to be a long long long game.

Rod of many parts?

What's that?

The toe of a Wraith.

Grand Lodge

The "seal" of a priestess of Calistria.

Wraith's don't have feet, no? :p But I can see how it could be a metaphor or just something called the Wraith's Toe.

I meant Rod of Seven parts

It's 3.5 material.

I don't think I'm allowed to list everything, but here is a link to a discussion. You can also try a google search.

The soul of a once dead god.

A particular set of dice.

A Deck of Many Things.

the Mouth of the Abyss (might be a bag of devouring).

A piece of jade the size of a man.

Those are all good. I think I can set it down to a few things, one part major/minor artifacts. One part 'worthless' objects that can be hard or easy to get, but are easy to identify. One part being things that are worth a lot, and the last part being something historical, perhaps metaphorical.

For wealth it's mostly things worth tens of thousands of gold pieces. Metaphor is gonna be whatever I can dump in the storyline.

So, putting it in reverse to make other people's heads work, if someone want's too, let's see what you would think these are. It can be low med or high lvl things.

-The bitter taste of defeat.

-A kingdom's most precious treasure.

-A sign of truce

-The greatest irony

-Lifeblood of creation.

And while it may not be the greatest irony, I think that a great irony would be, instead of a dragon collecting human treasures, it would be a human collecting dragon treasures/scales/egg shells/whatever dragon relevant.

Two cups, a coin made of bone, three bronze daggers green with age, a cameo of a bearded man in red jade on an ivory background and pair silk lined wooden shoes. There that should keep them busy for a while.

Each Item is a minor magic trinket or good luck charm once carried by a hero or villian as needed.

Two cups detect poison, coin acts as an augury spell if flipped before a decision, weal or woe, etc....minor underwhelming magic.

The cameo is the father of a powerful wizard thought to be dead.

The shoes belonged to a sorceress who refused to abandon comfort, even on the trail.

The classics are always nice:

  • The sound of a cat's footfall
  • The beard of a woman
  • The roots of a mountain
  • The sinews [meaning sensibility] of a bear
  • The breath of a fish
  • The spittle of a bird

Unfortunately, that one isn't so difficult to find.

Uhm, no, I'm not referring to cross-dressers or the like.

Yeah, in a world with dwarves, a woman's beard may not be hard at all :)

I'll also add one:

-A dead man's tears.

It's campaign world dependent, of course, but Golarian dwarven women don't have beards--nor do the women of the svartalfar, the dwarves who made Gleipnir, whose ingredients I listed.

Well some of these things need to make sense too. I mean awesome sounding things is one thing, giving them an actual meaning is another :p
