Disguise Question

Disguise (Cha)

You are skilled at changing your appearance.
Check

Your Disguise check result determines how good the disguise is, and it is opposed by others’ Perception check results. If you don’t draw any attention to yourself, others do not get to make Perception checks. If you come to the attention of people who are suspicious (such as a guard who is watching commoners walking through a city gate), it can be assumed that such observers are taking 10 on their Perception checks.

You get only one Disguise check per use of the skill, even if several people are making Perception checks against it. The Disguise check is made secretly, so that you can’t be sure how good the result is.

The effectiveness of your disguise depends in part on how much you’re attempting to change your appearance.
Disguise Disguise Check Modifier
Minor details only +5
Disguised as different gender –2
Disguised as different race –2
Disguised as different age category –2
Disguised as different size -10

My question is: disguising not as different gender, race, age category or size, is always about minor details? For example, a female human adult disguising as another female human adult.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes it is always minor details if you are just trying to look like someone who is not yourself.

Aww, nice thing to know. Thank you.

Depends.
If you're female and weight 100 lbs and are 5 ft tall and want to disguise as a another female of the same race and aproximately your age, who's 7'8 tall and weights 360 lbs, then that's not a minor detail anymore.

If it's just dying your hair from black to blonde, different style, and makeup so you aren't recognized, that's a minor detail.

Basicly I would rule: If you want to impersonate someone, its not a minor detail. If you just don't want to be recognized, it may very well be, but it depends.

Another disguise question

How would you rule Perform Acting helping? I would argue that a good Perform Check would give a circumstance bonus to it, say if you are trying to act like an older or younger person, or as someone of the opposite sex, or whatever.

What do you think?

My question rose after I read the quick disguise rogue talent... Don't know. There's no specified time for a... "normal" disguise.

I think a bard with versatile performance act can use her perform act ranks with disguise. But technically someone else no. Technically.

I dunno. I think perform acting is more acting on a stage, infront of an audience and all that. They know that you're fake, but are willing to suspend their disbelieve to enjoy the performance.

Disguising yourself usually happens in a different situation, when you don't want other people to know that you're a fake. So I'd rather require bluff instead of perform acting there.

I can accept the idea, but as a professional actor, I have to take umbrage to the idea that acting has no Real Life use. It absolutely can be used, in fact I use it when I teach students ALL THE TIME!!

But Bluff does make sense I suppose, except if you are physically trying to change how you move.

Anyhow not an argument just ranting a bit :)

The disguise skill mostly covers changing your look but in some situations I could see giving a +2bonus due to acting. Not RAW but I can see the synergy.
