Eidolon alignment question....any harm?

Homebrew and House Rules

I have an idea for a Broodmaster that has MPD, and manifests eidolon of their other personalities.

Normally the eidolon has the same alignment as the summoner, however I dont see any balance issues with allowing the characters eidolons to differ from the summoner, and even other eidolon in the brood.

Can anyone think of any reason this would be a problem ?

You're asking the wrong people here. The only person you should be asking is your GM. Because if you're asking for a rules question, you're going to get a rules answer. That's not what you're looking for.

Then let me ask a rules question: what are the effects of an eidolon getting slapped with a helm of opposite alignment? If the summoner dismisses and resummons the eidolon, do the effects remain?

Likewise, if a summoner gets hit with a helm of opposite alignment does the effect carry through to the eidolon as well?

With the explanation given by the OP I would say yes and yes. If each eidolon is a different personality in your own head (or similar, in any case), then slamming the personality in your head with a helm would persist to the eidolon, possibly immediately.

I like to explore all the angles BEFORE I take it to my DM.

That way I'm not waisting his time.

As I thought this was a good place to get a wider range of experience, I think it's a great place to ask ;)

One has to admit that not that many people play characters that are that extreme.

My answer to your question on the Helm, if the Helm is placed on the Eidolon, nothing happens. If it's placed on you, both you and the Eidolon change alignment instantly.

With that telepathic link between summoner and eidolon, I think one could make the case that both of their alignments would change if either one puts on a helm of opposite alignment -- or that nothing happens because the mental influence of the summoner undoes the effects of alignment change on the eidolon, in the event that the eidolon puts on the helm.

The alternative would be nasty -- once their alignments no longer match, the eidolon would become hostile to the summoner. The summoner would then have to dismiss the eidolon until he comes up with a means to undo the change (via Remover Curse, perhaps?).

Well, a helm of opposite alignment is only one example of a type of magic. Is an Eidolon susceptible to mind-controlling spells? Can a vampire dominate an eidolon? If a vampire dominates a summoner, does the eidolon come along for free?

Another way to ask this is: is an eidolon just a manifestation of the summoner's will? Does it have a spirit of its own?
