Death and the Aid spell.

Rules Questions

An ally is dying with -1 HP and 4 subdual damage. Our friendly cleric casts Aid on him. What happens?

Does he regain consciousness? Does he continue dying with a few extra HP to suck up the slow bleed toward oblivion?

Lets say Cleric is level 1, and he rolls a 1 on the d8. (Total +2 Temp HP)

Ally is now at 1 HP and 4 subdual.

Since his non-lethal damage exceeds his current HP, he is unconscious and helpless.

As his HP score is no longer negative, he is not dying, and does not lose 1 HP per round or roll to stabilize.

If Cleric had instead rolled a 4 on the d8 (+5 Temp HP), Ally would be at 4 HP and 4 subdual, and he is staggered.

If Cleric had instead rolled a 5 on the d8 (+6 Temp HP), Ally would be at 5 HP and 4 subdual, and would be able function normally.

So you're saying Temporary HP function as normal HP in every respect, and as long as the wounded character ends up in the green they're perfectly fine? What if they get an aid and are still at -2? Do they continue to bleed out?

1. Yes.

2. Yes. Only magical healing or getting into positives stoppes bleeding, not temporary HP.
