My players are nowhere near the special reward in Brinewall castle yet, but I want to start thinking about it now, mostly because magic items is an area of GMing where I'm pretty weak. I don't really know what to give them, so I was hoping for some assistance.

The party consists of
- A halfling paladin who uses a warhammer and tower shield, and is rather Charisma-based.
- A dwarf druid, very focused on druid magic.
- A human magus, kind of a jack of all trades and with by far the most skill ranks in the group, she likes fighting at range or with reach.
- A tengu monk, plans to go monk/duelist, uses a siangham since it's both a light piercing weapon (for duelist) and a monk weapon.

The only one I can think of anything for is the monk, who would probably love a Ki focus siangham. He was thrilled with even his regular one since it was the only weapon we could find in the core books that fell into all three of the light, piercing, and monk categories and would allow the class combo he wanted to work the way he wanted it.

Post sitting here for a week with no replies? Shameful! Sadly, I also have trouble thinking of this stuff. I guess the first thing you should decide is whether you're going to stick with the suggested total gp value limit on the items, or if you're going to increase it a bit. Some people prefer following it path as written, while others give their players a little more oomph. Personally, I've been a bit ruthless with the encounters, with many fights being near-death for at least one PC (and not infrequently a possible TPK) so I figure they deserve something a bit more significant.

Once you decide that, I would wait a few sessions and see how your players are actually running their characters. What types of tactics do they seem to favor? What would match with the character's personality or style? What does the character need help with? What might the player need help with?

Some folks have given +1 items that also have the ability to cast a spell once or three times per day, tailoring the spell to the PCs. Others are big believers in consumables, giving the players a short-term boost.

If nothing jumps out at you as an, "Oh, of course", I would suggest just flipping through the 1st-3rd level spells, see if there is an effect that seems appropriate for any of your PCs. Do the same with the magic items... then try to mix and match a little to come up with a custom item. It takes some time, but your players will appreciate it.

This thread has a general discussion about the vault items and some pretty cool ideas if you haven't seen it already.

Myself, I'm trying to stay away from weapons or armour and allow the PCs to buy that stuff themselves. So, I'm focusing on having items that revolve around or enhance their respective class abilities. So say something to enhance the pallys lay on hands, the druids animal companion, the magus's skill or range ability, and teh monks ki (somewhat like you already stated).

Here's a quick set of suggestions:

A small-sized magic shield +1 or +2, Blinding for the Halfling Pally,
Druidic Vestments for the Dwarf Druid,
Headband of Vast Intelligence +2 for the Magus.
I think your right on target for the Monk.
