Gestalt Gish Suggestions

Advice

I love Gestalt.

I, er, really don't love Gish.

BUT, assuming I were preparing to run a Gestalt game and a Player wanted to run a Gish, and I said "Sure," of course -- but I strongly encouraged the Player to be, instead of a Ftr-Wiz, run a Magus-something.

What would be a good second Class to take with a Gestalt Magus?

Fighter seems a bit too fightery. (Sorcerer seems a bit too wizardy). Monk or Rogue gives the PC lots of neet side stuff that can support a true Gish: Magus. What would be good?

Inquisitor.
Your character will be able to do everything!
Play a 1/2 orc, take the rage inquisition. Then take Amplified Rage teamwork feat.

I don't speak gamer lingo...what's a Gish?

In the olden days Gish was a type of Githyanki that was equally a fighter and a wizard.

Now it's the (often) pejorative of someone playing a Ftr-Wiz.

Or, the following Classes:
Magus
Eldritch Knight (PrC)
Duskblade (3.5)
Hexblade (3.5)
Mage-Blade (3.5, Arcana Evolved)
Stabracadabra

Ah gotcha, thanks.

A gish is a character that has a High BAB and a High Caster Level...

A Fighter Caster in otherwords. A Magus is a "Gish in a box" class for instance.

As for the original poster. You do realize that a Magus - Bla will probably be as strong or stronger then a Fighter - Wizard as the two dont mesh well.

A magus however can take the arcana that lets him cast any other class through his sword.

A Magus - Wizard/Sorc would be a terrifing creation.
A Magus - Fighter would be everything a Fighter is plus be able to throw an extra attack and be as mobile as a full caster.

If I where you I would count your blessing if a PC wanted to go Fighter-Wizard. Either you have a Wizard with good BAB and HP... or you have a Fighter that can be usefull outside of combat and that can buff himself.... But he can either attack or cast a spell... cant do both.

A Magus can and does.

A gish is melee plus arcane spells.

What about a strength based alchemist?
Witch could be interesting as well with hexes and spell combat.

The Player has shown, in the past, a bit of interest in Dragon-like PCs (seems so common among Gish lovers, maybe the two diseases are similar), how 'bout this:

Magus
Ftr-(1or2) / Rog-(1or2) / Dragon Disciple

. . . .
@Kryzbyn
Someone else already got Inq, but a strong possibility.

Yes I have thought it through. Thanks, though. Also, I'm not gonna ALL OUT Demand he go Magus/___, just strongly encourage.

Hmmm, me likey -- will throw that option on the table.

Urban Barbarian?

A Fighter (archer archtype) / Sorc going Arcane Archer would be pretty good.

I know thats exactly what you dont want but It got me thinking!

im going to have to second inquisitor. Bard could Also be good. Pretty much anything with casting is good with a magus. Ranger also. Lead blades spell combat. so nice.

Alchemist/Magus gestalt is a very strong melee option that still has excellent ranged attacks (bombs) and versatility (extracts and spells). the fact that all of the abilities mesh very well (both are Int based and alchemists can wear whatever armor the magus level allows) is great.

Bladebound Kensai Magus
Synthesist Summoner

Just remember one word when summoning up your fused Eidolon form once you have enough Evolution points for the good stuff: BANKAI.

For anyone else who's wondering:

------------

That format sounds broken. I guess you can balance any encounter. I wonder if its actually more balanced though seeming as wizards/clerics can still only cast once (without Swift) a round...

Hmmm...

For Magus? Wizard I guess would add most. Cleric could be pretty nasty too...

I played a magus/inquis mix before. It's crazy.
