I have a few questions using the throwing shield from the Ultimate Combat book:
1) What type of shield is it? Light, Heavy?
2) Does it do the listed 1d6 damage (for medium) on a bash or only when thrown?
3) Does throwing count as a shield bash (i.e. do feats and magics that apply to bashing apply when a shield is thrown, like the Bashing magic enhancement)?
4) Do you only need exotic weap - throwing shield, and a throwing shield, to effectively use the weapon (no throw anything, or various equipement tricks)?
Thoughts?

1) What type of shield is it? Light, Heavy?
Whichever type of shield it was you added Throwing to. Check the price: +50 gp. It's like adding armor or shield spikes.
2) Does it do the listed 1d6 damage (for medium) on a bash or only when thrown?
Thrown. The damage is listed on the shield as a ranged weapon, so it applies to using it as a ranged weapon. You don't get 1d8 when clubbing someone with your longbow.
3) Does throwing count as a shield bash (i.e. do feats and magics that apply to bashing apply when a shield is thrown, like the Bashing magic enhancement)?
I was going to say Bashing is melee, not ranged, though I see a bit of a loophole there, in that it doesn't specifically say "Melee" weapon, just off-hand weapon (which was FAQ'd to mean normal weapon). I'm unsure if the Bashing enhancement's +1 applying to a thrown shield is cheese or reasonable.
4) Do you only need exotic weap - throwing shield, and a throwing shield, to effectively use the weapon (no throw anything, or various equipement tricks)?
It's Martial, not Exotic.
If you're proficient with it, then you're proficient with it. If not, you take the -4 non-proficient penalty. If you want to use throw anything, then it's an improvised weapon and it should deal less damage and have limited range.
If you're proficient with martial weapons, but not with shields, then you would take the ACP on attack/dex/str but not the -4 penalty for non-proficient attacks (I think).

1) So light and heavy shields both throw the same distance and do the same damage? Alright then.
2) Except Longbows don't do damage, arrows do. If I chop someone with a throwing axe, it does the same damage as if I threw it at them. Same for a spear. Though there does appear to be a difference between melee weapons that can be thrown and throwing weapons.
3) I'm not sure either. But it would mean a throwing shield could do 2d6 when thrown. I think a shield bash is a specific thing (Shield Bash, not shield bash) so I don't think it works but I'm not sure.
4) Actually if you look at d20pfsrd.com ('cause I don't have my books here) Here you'll see it's listed under exotic throwing weapons.
So for +50gp and an exotic weapon proficiency, I can throw a heavy or light shield at 20ft increments for 1d6 damage. If used in melee those weapons do their standard damage. And bashing probably doesn't apply.
Is anyone using it differently?

Aha. I was using the Paizo PRD and the formatting on their table kind of sucks, the Exotic line doesn't have it's own header, so at a glance it looks like the entire table is Martial weapons. Good catch!

A few more questions regarding the Throwing Shield:
1. Suppose I have a Throwing Light Steel Shield. Do I require Exotic WP: Throwing Shield to use the Shield Bash attack in melee without non-proficiency penalties?
2. Suppose I have a Throwing Madu instead. Does the EWP for Throwing Shield supercede the EWP for the Madu, or do I need both?
3. Once a shield is created as a throwing shield, does it always count as such for a Fighter's Weapon Training class feature, including on bashes, or does its weapon type change based on how you are using it? (Note: This question is relevant for daggers, as well)

1. One might say it is only a throwing shield, in which case it is exotic, but another might say it is still also a light shield, which is martial for non-throwing purposes. I'd go with the latter, allowing it to be used as a throwing shield or light shield as the situation dictates.
2. If you want to use it as a throwing shield, you need EWP for throwing shield only, and the madu is treated as a light shield. If you want to use the madu's special qualities, you need EWP for the madu only, and take a -4 when using it as a throwing shield. If you want both, you need both.
3. The thrown weapon group includes throwing shields, and is the only way to get the weapon training bonus on throwing shields. Daggers can be found in multiple weapon groups, though getting multiple of these groups do not stack.

Re: 3 - What I mean to ask with that is whether you would apply the Thrown Weapon WT feature when, for example, using a shield bash while wielding a Throwing Shield. When I referenced daggers, it was a similar question because it is in several categories, including Thrown Weapons.
