Underwater, Waterbreathing and Spellcasting

Rules Questions

When casting spells underwater you must succeed at a DC 15 + Spell Level Concentration check.

Is this also the case when you are affected by watherbreathing?

The Exchange

Yes. Although there are a few items (the helm of underwater action springs to mind) that would eliminate the need for that check.

This does not sound correct to me... Please excuse my rudeness, but are you sure? Casting spells while underwater while water-breathing should be easier then casting while drowning... in fact I would think it would not be a problem (perhaps for "S" component spells... maybe?)

Shadow Lodge

Spellcasting Underwater: Casting spells while submerged can be difficult for those who cannot breathe underwater. A creature that cannot breathe water must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell underwater (this is in addition to the caster level check to successfully cast a fire spell underwater). Creatures that can breathe water are unaffected and can cast spells normally. Some spells might function differently underwater, subject to GM discretion.

(My emphasis.)

thank you - that's what I thought.

That's what I get for shooting from the hip. When editions change, it's the little stuff that gets ya, not the big things. ;P
