Subtle super powers

You present day have the chance to get a super power.

The catch is that it can't be anything overt. For example, FIreballs from your eyes do not qualify as subtle. Neither does invisibility because if something goes floating around it's pretty obvious what's happening.

Off the top of my head I'd want controlled telepathy to the extreme.

What about you?

The power to unerringly know the answer to any question that I concentrate on. The caveat that I have to actively use it is the most important part since there are plenty of things that I do not want to know.

If essentially controlled omniscience is too much then I want the ability to intuitively control electronics by touch. Thus I could touch a computer and manipulate it with my brain.

That said, I would totally be a supervillain, and an awesome one.

Scarab Sages

The ability to see 1 hour into the future. Racetrack here I come!

F' the racetrack. Lotto numbers!

But if he can only see 1 hour, the racetrack is probably his best bet.

Some more off the top of my head

Hyper intellect
Immortaility (with an eternal youth and minor regeneration caveat)

Scarab Sages

What can I say? I like horse racing.

I'm not sure when the lottery cuts off. Although a casino would accomplish much the same idea. Make the right bet into the right (progressive) slot machine at the right time.

Sovereign Court

The power of compound interest!

Oh, and the secret to immortality. So many places to go, things to do etc...

The Exchange

Photographic Reflexes: the ability to see someone else do something and then copy it. As seen in both Marvel comic's Taskmaster and on the TV show Heroes' Monica Dawson; although they call it adoptive muscle memory.

That is if I am being subtle.

Amazing luck. Makes you bullet proof, building proof, AND filthy rich without showing off.

That's a good one, though how would you know you had a super power? Things would just always go your way.

If there was some reason i needed to know, my alphabet soup would tell me.

Touche

Liberty's Edge

I've always wanted the power to know traffic. To know how fast to go to make all the green lights. To know where accidents were or were about to happen. Where the speed traps are hiding. Stuff like that.

best superpower ever= The Zack Morris Time Out.

Liberty's Edge

Being able to stay awake indefinitely without dying.

Gark the Goblin wrote:

I would add "or hallucinating" to that if I were you.

Fortune-shifting as manifested by wacky hijinks of an incidental fashion.

Mistaken identities, computer errors, vehicular accidents involving suitcases full of money, the like.

More importantly, it would require only a short burst of inspired observation to set such a luck transfer in motion. See douchebag on the news? So long as he's on camera for at least five minutes, luck transfers can commence.

And then when the next tragedy is on, some of that luck of a positive nature can be transferred their way.

I would have the super power to end the universe.

Or maybe flying.

Hmm... that's a tough one.

I don't think either of those qualify as "subtle." Though if you destroyed the universe fast enough no one would notice.

I want the power to move myself and 5 random others to the demiplane of tabletop rpgs. It exists outside of time, and contains anything needed to DM and play any rpg.

Subtle? Mayyyybe....
:P

Fast zombie horse racing could be interesting as well they are faster than normal horses.

My superpower would be infinite sense motive modifier.

I would only use them in the dark.

The power to be invisible when no one is looking.

The ability to cause orgasms through innocuous, non sexual skin to skin contact.

That sounds reeeeeeeeally familiar. Except I think it was an object. <Tries to remember.>

Meta-game knowledge for reality.

Scarab Sages

Nanotech based healing factor / near immortality. Must be able to compensate for evolution, permit long duration hibernation with preset conditions for awakening, and allow for future upgrades when available technology exceeds what I already possess.

The healing factor will not instantly heal wounds, but given sufficient time (days - months) will allow recovery from any injury that does not completely destroy me at a cellular level. Backup memory is stored in the nanites, I'll keep my memories just fine even if my head is destroyed. Aside from healing, an excellent state of health and at least of moderate state of physical fitness is maintained, subject to improvement by appropriate exercise.

Nerve clusters concentrated in the skin, as defined by a tattoo. I remember a story where the female character had them in a teardrop on her face.

Hmm. I think the thing I'm thinking of was something Gaimanesque.

But hallucinating is fun!

I always liked this idea, but it's basically a lesser (in practice, not mechanics necessarily) form of precognition.

I've had this fantasy. Basically access to HIGHLY advanced tech to use as you see fit. Personally I'd love to be composed of nanites. I would be known as "the swarm" and humanity would fear me!

God.

When you do your job right, people don't notice you've done anything at all.

I remembered! It was in that episode of Buffy where they're trapped in a house and there are dead kids manip'ing them.

It wasn't an object, it was a spot on the wall. Okay, sort of an object.

What book? What movie?

telepathy with the ability to modify emotions and manipulate memories as well as read minds and push said minds.

I think immortality is not very subtle people would recognize you never get older.

The ability to change and manipulate time pausing time and the ability to act when the time is paused.

You are Chiun - Master of Sinanju!

woot!

Do I get extra points for having about 20 books from the series... and I'm talking the EARLY books? :)

Dark Archive

how about what would be the equivalent of +100 to bluff, diplomacy and intimidate check? it'd be the "I win all arguments, ever!"... subvert, but far more powerful than anything else...

That would be yes.

The ability that Mel Gibson's character had when he could hear Women's thoughts.

Or...

The ability to find the 'Shatterpoint' of anything or one. Dim Mak ability on all.

Someone either has been reading, or really needs to read the Atlantean supplement to Conspiracy: X. But with near immortality, who'd want to hibernate? Somec solutions are for the short lifers.

Some things are worse than death, and may leave you unable to self-terminate. I want an escape button in those circumstances. Burial comes to mind.

The appearance of aging over a 20 - 50 year time frame is certainly possible. Either as an external modification facilitated by the nanites or via a makeup kit / hair dye. Past that point, you would have to periodically relocate and change identities.

Essentially, I can get married, have children, raise a family, etc. When my wife eventually passes from old age, it's time to move on. I have the choice of sharing my secret with family members and keeping in contact.

Of course, with advancing technology lifespans are increasing. The cure for old age is not that far outside current medical technology. Eventually we'll pass a threshold where advances in life extension will be sufficient to permit an individual to survive long enough for the next series of advances. It's uncertain how long I would even need to conceal my long lifespan.

The current proposition is, the first person to live 1,000 years will be born within 20 years of the first person to live to 150 years.
