I asked before about games in Southwest Virginia, and since no one else had anything, I'm taking it upon myself to start one. It's actually in Kingsport, TN, just across the state line from Gate City, VA, and within easy driving distance of Bristol. So if anyone reading this is in that area, you can check out the event listing on the Paizo website, or message me for more details.

I posted this a few months ago in this thread, but since you are in within reasonable distance of it, there is a new, one day convention that is planned for July 28, 2012 in Wytheville, VA: WyVaCon. Check with the folks running it and see what you can do to run some tables there.

I have been keeping something on the down low with a prospective Venture LT moving to near the area (Blackburg, Virginia Tech) which would be the best thing for Roanoke support we have been able to pull off to date but first he needs to move into the area and settle in.

I might be able to swing the WyVaCon but need to check work Schedule first before I commit but I am 80% sure I am open now.

Enevhar are you going to WyVaCon?

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Just sent a table space request to WyVaCon. Lets see what I can get.

Paul, not sure yet. But since it is a one day event, I may be able to drive there. It is about 3 1/2 hours away from where I live. I will also be going to Rising Star in Oct in Bluefield, WV, but I am not sure if they do much with gaming. When I went last year, they were happy that they had 150 attendees.

One of our DC/MD/No. Va players is in Fredericksburg too. I don't know if anyone is around that area.

I might visit WyVACon if PFS is able to get setup.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Bruce, Wyvacon was a blast! Small 2 room con but very fun. I plan to go there again.

More good news we got a new Venture LT installed in Blacksburg, Va (Near VaTech) amd his name is Adam Swinder. Adam has posted events at a local game store already so come on out!

Check it out --> Blacksburg PFS

We also now have stuff going on the Pennisula. First and third Sundays of the month at Atomic Comics in Newport News.

I LOVE Atomic Comics! What a fun store.

Hey guys, just a hello out there (especially to you western VA people). I'm part of the Asheville (western NC) Pathfinder Lodge. Just wanted to send up a friendly flag and smile about all the good gaming the mountains have to offer...

Cheers!

New to RPG's wondering if there is anyone in the fredericksburg area to meet and get introduced to gaming.

<Casts Resurrect Thread>

Sorry about the thread necromancy but this seems the appropriate place to ask this.

I see PFS is in the cards for Mysticon this year and I was wondering if there are going to be any slots good for first time Society players? I know I'm interested, (I've been sitting on a Society Cleric character for awhile but haven't been able to get to a con/location where events are being run until now), and a couple of folks in my regular game groups interested in an intro to this as well.

I want to switch some of my home games to PFS play but I haven't managed to convince my players and I"m hoping that getting them to play at this years con would do the trick.

I'm one of the GMs who will be at Mysticon running games. I can assure you that there will be scenarios that are appropriate for beginning players. Come by and give it a try.

Hey there, Atheral! I'm the main guy running things at Mysticon and I'm here to tell you proudly that the grand majority of our games scheduled (12 out of 16 scheduled games) will be either Tier 1-5, Tier 1-7, or a running of We Be Goblins! I scheduled my games with people such as you and your friends in mind. PFS is so raw and fresh and new in my part of Virginia that I wanted to promote it in the best way possible. Rest assured my friend, there will be games for you and you friends to attend.

Ah. Excellent, thanks both of you for replying. I've been attending this con( or rather the one at this location on this weekend) for the past 9 years save one. The one thing that has been badly declining in the past several is the quantity and quality of the gaming track it'll be good to see something coming back like this.

Atheral,
I will also be GMming for Mysticon! You'd be welcome at any of my tables - particularly The God's Market Gamble, which will be run on Saturday afternoon. It's one of my favorite scenarios, and I think it's going to be a great time.

Also, if you need any help with building a PFS-legal character (specifically, choosing a faction, knowing what is and isn't legal, handling item purchases, etc.), shoot me a PM and I'd be more than glad to assist.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Anyone in the Northern VA area? I'm running Pathfinder but would be very interested in PFS.

@Knight Druid
I was just about to ask the same thing! I'm in Sterling (near the northern terminus of Rt. 28). I was disappointed to see the nearest PFS group was about 200 miles away, last I checked. Where are you?

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

i also will be at Mysticon and we will run as much PFS as we can even if i got to add my room to the mix.

When it comes to games near the DC area VL Mike McKeown is the best point of contact.

You can Mike email from this list:

I don't want to embarrass Mr. McKeown, but I tried emailing him before, and I didn't get a response. I'll try again, but I want to pursue other options if I keep getting no response from him.

Feldnan,

Try looking here :

I haven't got a foothold myself in the Metro DC area mainly due to distance but this website is a decent start.

Closest thing I see in thee upcoming games is in Fairfax county.

There seems to be a lot of crossover between the NOVA and Baltimore PFS...their group is here: http://www.meetup.com/Pathfinder-Society-of-Baltimore/

More games in Fairfax would be nice. I'm considering running but how do you make the transition to GM?

The cross over to GM isn't to bad actually.

First - You are going to need scenario's to run. I recommend the three INTRO's as they are cheap and perfect for starting PFS up somewhere as it is for level 1 players. Read them and get familiar with the story and the encounters.

Second - You need a location. Unless you have a group of friends who are all welcomed to your house I recommend finding a game/comic/hobby store. I would choose a story that sells RPG/Pathfinder product as it likely you will have potential players coming into the store. Talk to the owner and arrange a space time to run your event.

Third - ADVERTISE! Talk to the location's owner and ask if you can hang fliers, post game notice on the local meetup sites, Facebook, store website and calendar.

If you have other questions please feel free to ask.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

When it comes to GM'ing a new GM is going to make mistakes but I can let you in on a little secret.

EVERY GM makes mistakes so don't sweat it.

Make sure you read the scenario a few times, have a map that you can write on such as the Basic Flip mat but any map that you can erase will do.

Have some color wet or dry erase markers Black/Blue/Red/Green are fine.

You will need miniatures to denote the "bad guys" and from there enjoy telling a story and interacting with your fellow players.

If you want a player for a game in Fairfax, I'm your huckleberry!

(As much as I like Pathfinder, driving to Baltimore is not my cup of tea.)

Also, I have a lot of pawns to use for miniatures, a small battlemat and the fold-out one that came with the Beginner Box, and I can buy another pound o' dice to share if you want to be ready for n00bs.

All,

The meetup groups for Washington DC and Baltimore is a great way to find PFS players in the area. I am no longer the VL of Washington DC, but I still run PFS scenarios regularly as listed on both group (although more on the DC group). There are certainly a lot of spillover from MD to DC to NoVA. I've live in MD for 20 years and VA for 3, so I know quite a few stores in the area and am willing to travel to any of them on a regular basis.

I know Mike McKeown (and game with him). Your request probably just slipped through the cracks.
