Thanks!

I would like to add to your "nugget"

One way to save money on Tanglefoot bags is to get yourself a net. It's exotic (which means a feat or a -4 to hit), but when the attack is a touch attack, you can usually swallow -4 really easily.

You don't get the "stick to the floor" effect, but sometimes it's not about that anyways, it's about giving the "entangled" condition, and the net is a one shot expense to create that condition over and over.

It's best to have both the tanglefoot bags and the net, and use the net whenever either would do. Big moneysaver.

P.S.

"Powergamer" and "Optimizer or min/maxer" are not synonymous.

You certainly touch on what powergaming really is later on though. It's not about being effective, it's about stealing the spotlight through domination.

A powergamer is certainly not unlikely to be an optimizer too (or at least use optimization techniques they've copied off of others), but not necessarily the other way around.

Spot on! I love me some net, it is made of win. Nuggets are short though, so I can only fit so much in.

As for the Powergamer vs Optimizer vs Min-Maxer thing... the problem with that discussion (while I personally agree with your definitions) is that there is not a single agreed upon definition of what they are and many gamers do indeed use the terms interchangeably. The unfortunate result is that you have to either just give in and use them interchangeably and talk about the difference in types of people who all fall in that category or have a pre-discussion where you agree upon definitions of the terms prior to engaging in a real conversation. <shrug> IMHO this is the cause of most of the ire (mine included) in conversations about this as someone means one type of person and uses a different term and therefor there is confusion.

My personal solution has been just to try and use the interchangeably and then talk about the differences in intent and what the person is actually doing and whether or not it is a problem.

What's this, you say? A series of Pathfinder-related podcasts to listen to on the drive to work? Sold!

I probably should have included links to subscribe through iTunes...

Well, for now, we can be found on iTunes, Zune, or RPGPodcast.com... or directly on 3.5 Private Sanctuary.

Regardless, we are happy to have you guys listening!
