Weapon Training and Weapon Proficiencies

I'm assuming that the fighter's weapon training doesn't make him automatically proficient in all of the weapons in that group, but I wanted to be sure. Does the fighter need explicit proficiencies in weapons that are a part of a chosen weapon group?

Fighters gain proficiency in martial weapons. Weapon Training gives bonuses when using weapons from a specific group, not the proficiency in them.

No rules in front of me, but I would presume that Weapon Training does not substitute for proficiency in Exotic weapons. While the training may offset the non-proficiency penalties with its bonuses, I don't think it would negate them. That would defeat the point of giving Fighters proficiency in all non-exotic weapons.
