Ok- so what's the story in Calgary

I've tried to do a bit of searching, but have come up with little. I thought they were looking for a venture captain in Calgary, but now I can't find it.

I'm not interested in the job (no time, I'm afraid), but I'd like to know what I can do to help. I'd like to start GM'ing events at cons, but none show up when I search on the site here. Come on, I know Calgary has a great support network for gaming, let me know how I can help!

Posting on here is a good first step.

Even if you have no intention of being a Venture-Captain yourself, the best way to drum up games in your area is by finding a GM, creating an Event, and reporting it. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, a one-shot home game on the events page means there is something there for somebody else to find. And once the various groups find each other, you can really build.

Check out Painlord's Guides on coordinating, playing, GMing...
And if you need any help in getting things started, ask on these boards or contact a Venture-Captain (emails are in the Guide to Org Play).

And as much as it may pain you, you may try sharing info with the Edmonton folks ;)

Good Luck!

Not getting enough gaming in between the two groups you play with/DM for?

Find Mike Haakstad he would be a good convert to PFS as he used to be very active in Living Greyhawk. He is up at the University of Calgary these days.

A bit of an update (I'm quick), you might try This Group.

Mike says, "They are just starting with Pathfinder games at gamedays. Some of the verbiage on the front page of the website has not been updated to indicate this."

But it sounds like PFS is alive in Calgary in some incarnation.

As one of the Edmonton folk, we'll try to keep it as painless as possible. ;)

If you have questions about setting up an event, you can talk to me here on the forums, or email me at brent.jans(at)gmail.com. Along with my Pathfinder-in-crime Randy (Barracus on the forums), we organize the PFS game days here in Edmonton.

I'll second Chris's recommendation to contact Pirates of the Plains; they are very active, and if they are starting PFS you'll see events soon. As well, you might want to check out events at Myth Games and The Sentry Box. While neither lists PFS specifically, I know there are Pathfinder players at both stores, and they would be open to events.

I hope that helps. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line!

Hey guys, thanks for the tips!

Ok, I've taken a look, but still seem to be having trouble finding events in Calgary. Maybe I'm being dense (it happens from time to time), but I can't seem to find anyone actually running events in Calgary... I'll settle for Edmonton (I've got family up there...), what's going on, con-wise, between now and Christmas? I'll GM sessions, I swear (We Be Goblins is becoming a bit of a trademark for me...)

In the meantime, I'll hunt tables at Cons in Calgary, keep an eye out...

I thought I'd bump this thread as I am also Calgarian, DM a biweekly Runelords/Kingmaker hybrid campaign (PF but not PFS) and have a couple PFS members in my group, including myself.

If anyone gets wind of an event or wants to organize something, PM me and I might be able to help get bodies out. I'm currently playing FS1 over on http://www.myth-weavers.com in their official PFS Chapter.

Once I finish that (in a few months, probably given PbP speeds), I might run it myself as an event to kick things off here and maybe get other GMs into the rotation so I can play once in a while.

I'm not ambitious enough to go for Venture-Captaining at this time, mostly because I currently work at odd hours that wouldn't work well for most conventions etc., though that might change in the fall sometime.

If there are any parties interested, leave a message here, PM me or send me an email (address is in my profile). I am not looking for new players in my gaming group as I have more than is ideal as it is but I wouldn't mind getting a little on the side...

Hey Brent,

I noticed that at the exact same time when I was looking for this, I was missing an event that you were running here in town. Funny coincidence.

I don't know if you will end up with a mailing list of Calgary PFSers or something after this or have planted the seeds to set PFS events up more regularly here but I'd be interested in being in on the action if anything came out of your weekend games.

Kris Vickerman, email in profile.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Are there any PFS events upcoming here in Calgary?

I'd be up for GMing or playing...

Why is Calgary so destitute in the realm of Pathfinder Society? Come on guys we can do better than this.

Sorry for not finding this thread sooner. I'm kind of an... analog man in a digital world.

Anyway, to my sure and certain knowledge (for the last several months anyway), there has been a monthly PFS event at Myth Games on the second Saturday of the month. There is a session starting at lunchtime with a second when time permits afterwards.

I had heard that this information was posted on-line, but haven't stumbled across it yet. This interweb thingy sure is big.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Hey Calgary folk, I created a Facebook Group to start the ball rolling since things have been so sluggish here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/727141147315246/

I'll try to track down the Myth Games groups and see if there is a critical mass to get something regular happening without me having to be the guy to plan it all since I'm personally too busy for much of a recurring commitment and have my own home game.

I also contacted the Southern Alberta V-C (based in Lethbridge) to see if any of his contacts are in Calgary.

Easiest way to contact me is via the Facebook Group for now. It's Open so join up and once we get a big enough group, we can come back here.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

OK, I posted on the Myth Games and Sentry Box Facebook pages as well.

Hopefully this goes somewhere.

I am fairly new to the society but I am planning on trying to make it to some events when I happen to be in Calgary.

Does anyone know if the events at Myth Games are going on through December? I was hoping to make it next week when I go to visit my parents.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I didn't hear back from them.

My Facebook Group has not caught any interested parties yet (other than people I know IRL). I've tried another means of contact to both Myth Games and Sentry Box and encourage anyone with any interest in PFS games in Calgary to contact me on the Facebook group.

This may be a process where over several months we collect enough contacts until we have enough to start a mailing list and regular-ish games.

Update:

Myth Games has an event on the second Saturday every month in their store, drop with starting at 1:00 and 4:00.

#4 3434 34th AVE NE
Calgary, Alberta T1Y6X3
Phone (403) 769-1909
Email events@mythgames.ca
Website http://www.mythgames.ca

Sentry Box replied as well and they don't think there is any PFS stuff, but there is a single Pathfinder table at their bimonthly D&D meetup. Apparently, "One Staff Member has been flirting with starting something more official", so it may require some organizing first.

I'll try to go to the Myth Games event next month and see what there is as far as the seed for a proper Lodge.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Thanks for the update.

I wasn't really expecting much for the coming weekend with it being so close to Christmas, but had been hoping. It would be nice to have something going on in Calgary for me to pop in to once in a while. Good luck with getting things rolling.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Do join my facebook group and if you know any potentially interested folk, please point them there:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/PFSCalgary/

I've been less than a regular poster over here of late...

Grand Lodge 3/5

I'll sign up with the group on facebook. I usually only am in Calgary a few days a month so I play most of my PFS missions in Edmonton. It would be nice to have something for when I am down there though.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Dwayne, I found another group that meets. Not sure if they play PFS or not but it looks to be a regular thing:

http://www.meetup.com/The-Calgary-Pathfinder-Meetup-Group/events/154648912/

I've obviously contacted them.

I went to this and it was a bust. Nobody showed but me.

I'll keep trying and anyone who is interested in PFS in Calgary, PM me or join my facebook group...

Hey everyone,
Just trying to bump this old thread. Currently there is a PFS group in the works that will be starting up most likely in September at the Sentry Box in Calgary. It is pretty centrally located and will be on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.

I have been Coordinating it with Greycloak on the Facebook group here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/PFSCalgary/

We will be posting updates and events on the website here and on the facebook group, so please go join the group and if you have a chance, hit up the Sentry Box in Calgary and put your info on the sign up sheet there.
I will be contacting people with news and updates over the next 2 months.

the first session should be on the 1st Saturday of September.
If the session changes I will let everyone know via these forums, in the Facebook group, or by email.

Thanks everyone!

Great things afoot in Calgary and PFS!

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Just a little bump.

There have been 3-4 PFS game days per month happening since these original posts and we currently have 77 members in our Facebook group.

If you're interested in PFS in Calgary, come on over to the Facebook group linked above.

Will do when I'm in Calgary (working out of town right now).

Running a couple of We Be Goblins games for Free RPG day at Victory Point in Red Deer, assuming work doesn't interfere.

Kapow in Lethbridge also has Pathfinder activities twice a week (Thurs eve and one other day), last time I looked.

Just wondering if a wandering player can find a few games be, they weekly or monthly, I can drop in on? I do long hall trucking in to Calgary more often then not. Although I end up in Edmonton about 2 a month. also I tend to turn up in Brooks almost once a week.

I'm not sure about Calgary, but there's several games a week in the Edmonton Area. You can check it out on Warhorn
