Are Punching daggers considered daggers or Unarmed strikes for purposes of weapon proficiency, allowing a wizard to use it without penalty? Or are they they're own type of weapon?
It has its own entry both in the Weapons table (with its own stats and everything) and in the weapon descriptions. What exactly would prompt the thought that it was something other than what it says it is?
Aside: Seeing the thread title, I came in here hoping you were asking how much damage you would take if you punched an object that turned out to have a dagger hidden under its surface. Oh well.

Heh, I would assume in that situation you would take the dagger's 1d4 modified by the strength of the one punching it.
