here goes...Character possesses Weapon Finesse, TWF and I'm looking at dipping into Gunslinger on the next 'level up'...so, if the character has a rapier in his main hand and a pistol in his off hand what would the penalties/bonuses be for combat purposes? Only because I'm a sucker for pirate films :D
I'm thinking of either Point Blank Shot or Opening Volley for his level 3 feat - I don't have character sheet with me for reference but this is the info I can remember....
-2 TWF
+ 3 Dex Bonus for W/Finesse = +1
Weapon Focus: rapier (+1) = +2
So..would he get +1 for the pistol shot then +6 if the pistol hits?
Is a pistol classed as a light weapon at it is written as weighing 4lbs

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but here are a couple of thoughts:
I haven't read up on firearms, but ranged weapons always use DEX to hit rather than STR, regardless of Weapon Finesse.
A weapon's weight category (light, one-handed, or two-handed) has nothing to do with its physical weight in pounds. You can tell which category it's in by where it's located in a weapon table - the tables are divided by weight category. Also, those weight categories apply only to melee weapons - ranged weapons have no such designation.

Yeah, all pistols are listed as one-handed. Which means a -4/-4 penalty on twf attacks.
I think there might be some changes I'd make though, since the coat pistol is small enough to hide, but doesn't get the benefit of being a "light weapon" like the hand crossbow.
The firearm section doesn't really take into account two weapon fighting at all, despite the Gunslinger iconic using two at once. The handedness really seems to only factor in whether you take a penalty if you aren't using two hands on the longarm weapons.
Which is unfortunate, because they used the exact same wording used for melee weapons.
I had been one of the people who requested during beta to just make ranged weapons into light/one/two categories as well. Would have been nice to have Ultimate Combat clear that up with a new, and complete, weapon list.
Oh well.
If you want a GM perspective, I'd probably go with the crossbow rules as far as how big and unwieldy the item is.
I'd probably stick with the buckler gun, pepperbox, double barreled pistol and dragon pistol all being treated as one-handed weapons for TWF, while the rest of the one-handed firearms being treated as light.
The two-handed firearms could technically be used too, but they'd have the -4 penalty on top of being treated as a one-handed weapon for TWF (so -4/-8 if you had a musket in your offhand).
