Bless weapon and intelligent weapons.

Rules Questions

By RAW Bless weapon makes the affected weapon good-aligned, which overrides and suppresses any alignment the weapon might have.
My group has obtained an intelligent LE sword and the paladin is thinking of applying bless weapon to use it.
This sword is a minor artifact. By RAW it is automatically affected, but I'm thinking that bless weapon only changes the alignment for combat purposes. The sword will still be LE and want to carry out its purposes of slay all, leading to a personality conflict at the end of the fight.
And should the sword be allowed a will save, even though the spell doesn't normally allow it?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Intelligent Item Alignment - so the paladin is probably suffering from 3 negative levels and given that Inteligent items "think and feel the same way characters do and should be treated as NPCs" it should get a will save.

Yes, although the paladin will only use the weapon when it has been blessed in order to avoid the negative levels.

It would not change the allignment of the weapon, just supress the effect for combat - you describe the weapon as a Minor Artifact, I assume it has an EGO score to match. Remind the Paladin that characters playing with fire often get burnt.
Given that the Inteligent Item should be played as an NPC, I would say that Dominate would be needed to force the sword to do the Paladins bidding.

This. A Paladin is treading dangerous waters by trying to command a powerful evil rather than destroy it. Think of Arthas and Frostmourne from Warcraft or Elric and Stormbringer for example. Both of them thought they could manage the power but things went horribly wrong for them.

Personally, I don't think Bless Weapon was designed with controlling intelligent artifact weapons in mind. It's only a first level spell after all. The way I read it is that it just changes how the weapon is aligned for DR purposes and wouldn't directly affect the personality of the weapon.

Also, keep in mind that sword could attempt to dominate the Paladin at any time too. If you want to open the door to creating an Anti-paladin this is a great opportunity to do it.
