Bard!

Advice

I am about to play a pfs sencerio for the frist and also a frist time bard its 2o point buy. Any suggestions on how to spend my points or feats or spells that are must have, strong arctypes, etc please help. Btw kinda leaning towards a ranged guy.

Precise shot, point blank shot, rapid fire, multi shot and finally improved precise shot. Those are your big ranged feats. You will want a solid dex and cha since you are a bard with a somewhat decent str.

Ok, start here: Treantmonk's Guide to Bards

That'll cover the basics of building a bard using the core rules. It also does a great job of exploring different bard roles, the success of different mechanical concepts, and which spells can help you succeed. Once you're finished reading that you'll have a stronger idea of how you might like to build your bard and should poke through the additional books available to you. But as a quick start, here are a few archetypes that might interest you:

Arcane Duelist: A good archetype for the bard who cares more about fighting than skills and subtlety.

Archivist: A thinker type who excels in knowledges and skills.

Magician: For the bard who likes to pretend to be a full caster.

Sandman: A sneaky, rogue-like bard who uses cunning and guile to overcome his foes.

Good luck!

Firstly, if you haven't seen this fantastic site, check it out:

For direct linkage to the Bard class, click here.

There are a couple of good "Optimization Guides" floating around, both on d20pfsrd or here.

Here's Treantmonk's Guide To Bards

As far as stats go:

Treantmonk wrote:
by priority your requirements would be Dex, Cha, Str, Int, Con, Wis

Assuming you want to play a Human (very good),

Str 14 (5 pts) Dex 16 (10 pts) Con 14 (5 pts) Int 9 (-1 pts) Wis 7 (-4 pts) Cha 14 (5pts)

After Racial Bonuses: Str 14, Dex 18, Con 14, Int 9, Wis 7, Cha 14

For archery, you're going to want: Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim.

Possibly also: Weapon Focus: Shortbow, Arcane Strike.

As a Human Bard, that'll take you to 9th level if you take them int hat order. If you'd prefer, you could delay Rapid Shot in favor of Arcane Strike, then Deadly Aim. That would result in less total number of attacks, but each one would be more likely to hit & do more damage.

As far as spells go, that depends on what you're looking to do. Classic "Party Buff" bards' combat routine will typically go something like: Performance for Inspire Courage, Move Action (until 7th level, when it's typically Inspire Courage / Good Hope or Haste). Subsequent rounds will depend on whether you want to shoot something, cast another buff-spell, or do something else (like turn invisible, more for a more advantageous shooting angle, or what have you).

I prefer the "vanilla" Bard, but it's worth checking out the others to see if something strikes your fancy.

Those links up above are great reads, though, and won't steer you wrong in how to make a potent Bard PC.

Good Luck, and remember:

Bards Rock!

edit: Ninja'd!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Grease is one of the best first-level Bard spells out there. Take it if it fits your build. It's very flexible .You can either grease an area to make people fall down, or an item (such as a weapon) to make the target drop it. Or you can use it to help break free of a grapple, or help an ally break free. The latter effect, in particular, is handy to have around even later in your career when you have better "attack" spells.
