Advice for a new GM

Advice

Hello all,

I'm starting up my very first online PbP Pathfinder game. I have little to no experience with the D20 system. I have yet to accept any players into the game. I'm using the northern part of Avistan as the starting point of the game, with the hopes of having the PC's travel to Port Egede, and then eventually up into the Crown of the World. The season would be winter, making this trek even more treacherous.

As such I'd like some feedback on my setting and recommendations as to what would be some interesting encounters in and around the region of the Lake of Mists and Veils, the Estrovian Forest, and in between that and Port Egede? The way Port Ice is described, I would imagine the lake to be partially frozen, which would be a cool experience of having the PC's segway onto the lake to avoid certain obstacles and what dangers that would bring. What sort of vessels would be found traveling through the lake?

I'm at a bit of a loss for when it comes to what sort of creatures one might find in the snowy regions? I have bears, wolves... ice bandits (not really) :P

Any helpful input, suggestions, and thoughts are always appreciated!

Thanks,

- Joseph.

I went to Monsters by Terrain:

and I would then scroll down to any section with (Cold) in its heading.

I would also use lots of NPCs.

Best of luck. I hope you enjoy the experience.

Can I suggest that you ask the players to link to any uncommon rules that they are using/applying in their posts?
