Making a giant statue

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

How large of a stone(/or another material if better bang-for-buck) could you buy for 10,000g?

In a 'standard' situation I guess...the city is large but not massive, but on the other hand the guy has the blessing of the king which helps.

Liberty's Edge

It high variable.
Me gaming group consider a exchange rate of 1 gp = 50 €.
If you were buying the best graded carrara marble you would get about 2.500 m3, a 10 mx 10 m x 25 m parallelepiped (about 33'x33'x82').
More than enough for a very big statue.

I think that your problem will be the resistance of the material.
The leg of the statue could easily break it you don't use some trick (like a mantle enveloping them and touching the statue basement) to make them thicker.

Wall of Stone, cast by a 10th level wizard, would get a 4" thick slab, 50 5' squares, per (10x5x10gp)500 GP.

So, for one casting, you could get a (roughly) 25' length of stone, standing 50' tall... and 4" thick.

Casting this 15 times would get you a block that is 5' x 25' x 50'. So that would cost you 7500 GP.

Fabricate would cost another 500 GP, and would let you take that 5' x 25' x 50' and craft it into a statue... all for 8000 GP (2,000 under budget!)

EDIT: This could be done with a 9th level wizard, but it I rounded up to 10th level to help with the math.

The primary cost of such a statue isn't in the stone itself, but in the time and effort of the artist.

A wizard could whip up a statue relatively quickly, but unless he's also an artist, it'll look like crap. If he *is* a competent artist on top of being a wizard, expect to be charged through the nose for a fast, high-quality product.

So that's where modern art comes from!
