"This is a Dark Age, a bloody age, an age of Daemons and of sorcery. It is an age of battle and death, and of the world's ending. Amidst all of the fire, flame and fury it is a time too, of mighty heroes, of bold deeds and great courage.

At the heart of the Old World, sprawls the Empire, the largest and most powerful of the human realms. Known for its engineers, sorcerers, traders and soldiers, it is a land of great mountains, mighty rivers, dark forests and vast cities. And from his throne in Altdorf reigns the Emperor Karl-Franz, sacred descendant of the founder of these lands, Sigmar, and the wielder of his magical warhammer.

But these are far from civilized times. Across the length and breadth of the Old World, from the knightly places of Bretonnia to ice-bound Kislev in the far north, come the rumblings of war. In the towering World's Edge Mountains, the orc tribes are gathering for another assault. Bandits and renegades harry the wild southern lands of the Border Princes. There are rumors of rat-things, the Skaven, emerging from the sewers and swamps across the land. And from the northern wildernesses there is the ever-present threat of Chaos, of daemons and beastmen corrupted by the foul powers of the Dark Gods. As the time of battle draws ever near, the Empire needs heroes like never before."

Hello and welcome to the dark fantasy world of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay! It is a world of chaos, strife, war and opportunity across the Old world for adventurers of all four races, Men, Elves, Dwarves and Halflings to make their mark on the world. For those interested in learning more of this grim, haunted world of greenskins, feral-headed beastmen and the dark powers of the Chaos Gods, please dot for interest. Once enough players have expressed their interest in possible playing, I will set up the founding rules for the creation of characters. Raise your blades and stand firm before the march of Chaos, of orcs and of the Skaven! For the Emperor!

When it comes to WFRP, you an pretty much always count me in. Is this a location-based game or an online game? Which edition will you be using? I'm great with 1st & 2nd editions, but hold no interest for the 3rd edition.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Thoth-Amon

The edition i will be using in this online PBP is the WFRP core-rulebook and the Bestiary. Some careers will be restricted for reasons i have seen doubly reinforced over the years while playing. The cover of the issue i am using is very distinctive it has a slayer, a woman of bretonnia, a sigmarite priest, a wizard of the Red and a one-eyed white-bearded swordsman holding a banner all fighting beastmen. :) Hope to hear from you all.

1st Edition, 2nd Edition or 3rd Edition?????

Based on a quick google I think that is second edition

scranford wrote:

It should be 2nd edition, and the 3rd edition book will not be used. only careers and races from WFRP Rulebook will be allowed. also for those who already play the game i encourage you to go ahead and plot out a few possible characters to submit once this gets on the road :)

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

Second Edition rules :-).

Officially dotted....

For all players new to WFRP, please refer to my profile for the rules of character creation. Once enough players have dotted, I will fully explain how characters are made in WFRP. You do not select any set amount of these abilities, all are rolled, here in front of me.

For those who have played before, you know how to make a character, but those who do not, here is an example of how to roll a stat.

EX. Rolling for an ability as a human. 20 + 2d10 ⇒ 20 + (10, 9) = 39 This roll would give you a very high stat in whatever primary stat you wish to invest it in. I believe that, if you are a martial class, you would want this 39 as your weapon skill, not your intelligence, unless you would prefer to roleplay it that way, whereas if you were a wizard you would want this score as your intelligence, or agility if you are a rouge.

Hmm just a thought but maybe if i open up submissions, more people will be willing to come in and check it out and maybe learn more. all right everyone, Recruitment submissions into WFRP are now open!

Just for everyone's knowledge, i want at least three different characters per person for those who already know the game, and human should be the preferred race for the first 2. Humans are the most common in the Old World, with a few elves, dwarves and halflings intermingled among the populace. :) hope to see plenty of exciting and compeling characters. backstories will come after revision of your race, careers and appearances. also, i would like each person to pick 3 careers, even those who don't know how to play, that they want to play per character.

Now onwards, and into the Old World!

Dark Archive

I'll dot this definitely interested in the warhammer world I even play the miniature game xD

Will try to come up with something for the background, making all 3 humans.

Do we select careers from the main book only?

I have only played this game once ^^ and it was awesome.

Definitely very interested in this game! I'll put together two humans and an elf
-Inquisitor Leet

If you possess the 2nd edition book you may select any beginning career except the following without an intensive backstory and reasoning behind it. Obviously, all race related classes are thus narrowed and restriced, so there will be no Human Troll Slayers.

Troll Slayer
Estalian Diestro
Norse Berzerker
Kislevite Kossar
Kithband Warrior (more leniet with but still i don't want an entire party of them)

Anything else is fair game, merely submit all character ideas on here to me and I will give you the go-sign on all that i like :) I am sorry if this seems strict but having played in so many ridiculous games over the years, I have to maintain my sensibilities in the chaotic war-torn world of Warhammer.

Scarab Sages

I'm definitely interested, so here are three very basic character ideas:

1. A Squire whose Knight was recently killed while fleeing from battle. With no Lord to serve he's now working as a mercenary and has very little use for "knights" and their claims of honor.

2. A rather ugly, but amiable, acrobat and storyteller (Entertainer). Possibly, eventually a minstrel and spy.

3. An very quiet and unassuming elven hunter. (Though I could also play a old gruff human hunter as well).

Ok those all sound quite good, but im confused on your first one. ur a squire? Or your a mercenary? because squires actually in my book have to have a certain code of honor, since that's how they were raised since childhood. also for anyone playing an elf, i will need a reason why ur choosing them besides the bonuses to ballistic and agility. the only sources of elves in warhammer come from Athel Loren, who never leave, and High Elves of Ulthuan who are currently in a huge war w the dark elves of Naggaroth.

Moreve, Pit Fighter, Human

Spoiler:

Moreve was born in the town of Grenzstadt of Averland. Moreve come from a minor noble family, the Grenzhann of Grenzstadt. Your great-great-grandfather was a successful farmer who was able to buy title deeds to lands and since that day your family’s wealth has grown.
All through her early life she played with the local boys; she could run, wrestle, climb trees, and fight as well as any of the children playing on the street. It wasn’t long before your mother took notice of this and forbade you to play with the ‘dirty little paupers’ as it was ‘un-lady like behaviour’ and ‘unfit for you to be socializing with the unwashed peasants’ . Your father insisted on raising you to be a ‘proper’ lady of your station and planned to marry you off for political gain.

Moreve knew that this wasn’t the life for her, she hated all the other ‘proper young girls’ and when on her 15th birthday learnt of her father’s attempts to wed you to Prospero Konigsamen, a fat lecherous 35 year old, you decided to run away from the town. At first Moreve had enough money to feed herself but it slowly ebbed away until she could barely contain the hunger. It was in this sorry state that you met Master Krebs, an old Pit Fighter from Nordland.

Master Krebs was near retirement and low on funds; Moreve met when she tried to steal what little money he had and where caught red handed. After the beating that ensured Krebs made her an offer she could not resist. He had recognized Moreve natural fighting ability during the beating; “you’d almost managed to connect with a few punches” Krebs said. This had impressed Ole’ Krebs and he offered to train in the art of Pit Fighting provided he got a selection of any winnings you received. Moreve accepted his offer, perhaps because of the glory, or perhaps just because of the empty stomach.

Moreve and Krebs where touring the Nordland when the Archaon’s Hordes invaded the Empire. The Beastmen came upon your wagon one evening, they were too numerous for you to fight and you were forced to flee. The last memory you have of Ole’ Krebs is the old man proudly standing against an impossibly large number of Beastmen while shouting for you to run…

Brenog, Mercenary, Human

Spoiler:

Brenog Breuner grew up in the Drakwald forest as the only son of a forester. His mother died in childbirth and his father was a strict and taciturn disciplinarian, blaming his son’s difficult birth for his wife’s death. Brenog was taught the harsh realities of life living in a small hut in the woods, constantly aware of the threat of beastmen attacks and having to live off the land. He grew up alone having to amuse himself when young and largely fend and provide for himself. As soon as he was old enough to swing an axe his father put him to work chopping logs and eventually taking him out to help in the woods. Despite the harshness of having to hunt for food and live off the land, Brenog grew to be a tall, strong lad with a voracious appetite.
At the age of 16, Brenog was drafted into the local militia primarily because of his size and immense strength. It was here that he was nicknamed ‘Berg’ – a natural shortening of his name, in reference to his size. He was a natural born killer and survivor on the battlefield and was soon drawn into the ranks of the Middenheim city army as a Warrior of Ulric, fighting primarily with a great axe but taught to handle many weapons.

Although Berg enjoyed the fighting and the possibilities of plunder on the battlefield he struggled with the discipline. A naturally independent and solitary man, being told what to do – especially if those orders seemed idiotic – was not an easy thing to take. Consequently he has a network of scars covering his back where his commanding officer repeatedly had him flogged. Things finally came to a head when a young, impatient and inexperienced junior officer issued an order to charge from a defended position on top of a hill to attack an overwhelming number of beastmen that Berg finally snapped and punched the commanding officer, throwing him backwards against a wall. Berg knew this was a high offense so he left the battlefield and began working his way around the southern Empire selling his services as a mercenary.

Will have an extra one later, probably a bretonnian or a wannabe knight of Myrmidia or priest of myrmidia xD.

Those all sound great dude. ok silly question, who does NOT have access to the 2nd Edition WFRP books? That way i know if i need to go through all the statistics, which i am totally willing to do for newbie players who are interested :) i AM looking at a party of 4-5 so plenty of openings.

Squire: I'd prefer that he actually have the Squire starting career. He was trained as a squire and while I agree that Squires and Knights are supposed to have a code of honor, this is clearly not always the case. There's a reason why this character, in particular, has little to no respect for people that swear oaths in order to claim to be honorable. While the character would have a relatively strong personal code, it wouldn't resemble a knight's all that much. (Though if you'd prefer the character to start as a Mercenary, then that'd be fine too.)

Elf: This is my least favorite of the three concepts, but I was thinking of having the character come from one of the "many hidden Enclaves" in the Empire's forests. I don't have too much of a motivation to make the character an elf other than I rarely play elves and thought it'd be interesting in Warhammer. I didn't get the impression they were *that* rare in the Empire from their description on page 16.

Have most of the 2nd edition books.

Rolled the following careers.

First concept is a Human Noble: Wolfgang is the 19 year old second son of a minor noble house of Middenheim. He struck out on his own after his age of majority. He earns most of his pocket money through gambling and uses his wit as an armsman uses his sword. He dreams of one day returning home with power greater than what birth had bestowed upon him and he will not allow anything to stand in his way.

Second concept is a Human Bounty Hunter: Ulf is the unlettered, illegitimate son of a prominent Alt Dorf merchant with his favorite mistress. The death of his parents, an event brought about by the schemes of the merchant's bitter wife, left Ulf earning a living in the streets. With tenacity, Ulf learned the business of bounty hunting. Cold and bitter, Ulf believes that Sigmar has forsaken his Empire.

Third concept is a Dwarf Tradesman: Orri is the humble trade factor of the prestigious Weapons Guild. He goes steadily day in and day out performing his clerical duties. But something inside of him yearns for more. He wants to see other sights and to experience adventure. But he knows that those are not for him if he stays at his desk.

Well i'll accept that for now lolz it really all depends on how u roleplay the character in my mind :) although on a personal note, if anyone performs a PF chaotic evil action, you will NOT like the 'rewards' from the Chaos Gods I give u. just a spoiler :P.

Ryuk I have to say I love all 3 ideas, and can see any of them in my planned campaign. also, Aptunivel, i am not saying that the squire isnt a good option, but altho i said i want mainly humans, i believe that there should be at least one or 2 exotic members as in race. so if u wanted to play the elf :) ur free to, just give me a good backstory.

Also i am kinda surprised no one has mentioned the Half-Elf created race. it's very simple, requires a bit of backstory, but in my mind its a fair combination of the two races :) anyone interested hit me up for details.

All right now a question for everyone assembled. Who here is in favor of beginning this campaign with the pre-made adventure path in the back of the WFRP rulebook? I see it as a good starting adventure, from which we will branch off into my homebrew. if no one wants to, or majority rules not, we will simply start in the default beginning stage.

Also, as a kind GM of CHaos note, there will be a vote for the type of enemies you will face. I do a customized XP system, but looting is based entirely on an item or weapon you find in the field that you take with u to use, not lugging say 13 short swords back to sell. U will find plenty of gold to spend along the way :) hint hint.

Ok so I will line up the possible oppositions, as i have seveal homebrewed campaigns for each. these are each titles. :) ask about any for minor details.

Bloody Vale
Shadow of the Beast
Tide of Iron
The Hidden Blade

Dark Archive

I have one question, IF I wanted to do a Priest of other god instead of Sigmar (Ulric/Myrmidia) can I start with a more proper weapon according to the god? just a career question nothing to it.

I don't mind being walked through the system also, I played wfrp about 5 years ago so I might be rusted ^^ but I do play the miniature game hehehe...

Maybe my third character if I got decent rolls will be a squire but out of those two I'm more inclined to play the Mercenary I think he is more " versatile" that the Pit Fighter, which is an awesome melee fighter but I still need to do my character rolls.

Ok no problem. To clarify, all weapons such as swords, axes, maces, hammers, clubs or the like of one handed weapons are clumped together to the term Hand Weapon. the look and type of Handweapon your character starts with all art of flavor. :) this is one of the things i love most about WFRP, there is no minmaxing to get the best weapon, all hand weapons have the same stats. in fact there are several magical hand weapons in each of my campaigns. say the mercenary uses a battleaxe as his hand weapon, and u find a magical hand weapon. if the mercenary claims it, it is then a magical battleaxe, or another weapon he would like it to be.

Also, again, for looting purposes, only take items u plan to use please :) also don't worry about everyone getting their fair shair of awesome loot. i have multiple different magic items, armor pieces and weapons for each of you alreayd made and ready to get used to slaughter with :)

to answer ur question Deiros, if u want to say ur handweapon is an axe instead of a hammer or sword, power to your choice of character battle plan :) altho if u worshipped Myirmidia, I would of course allow u to trade in your starting hand weapon for a spear if u wanted :)

Also i hate to be stingy but until we have all agreed on a campaign setting, rolls will not be needed. All i need of you all to do now is to finalize the backstories of your characters, get their appearance and mannerisms firmly in mind, and then we will start with the rolls for stats, wounds, fate points and a certain special something i use in only my games :) u'll find that out once we get there.

Dark Archive

Definitely an AXE!! Khorne! er... wrong one er... longsword for Myridia then.

But I will do the axe for the merc almost for sure they look more terrifying than a sword at least. My third character I still am thinking about it between priest or wizard.

O Changer of Ways:

Do I have it straight that the three concepts are so that there is an easy replacement character for when we inevitably get killed?

If so, do we get choice of which to start with? - or will you pick the one you prefer?

Actually, ifur character dies, and not because of an evil act or anything brough upon yourself, ill be nice enuf to allow u to replace a dead character w one already made, or a new one, with most if not all of ur current exp still attached :) u can create as many characters as u wish as long as theyre fitting in w the standards and all stat rolls are made on here :)

Also, i will allow each of u to select your new hero in the event of death. this is a game where, even if i didn't wish your gruesome deaths *muahaha* there is little i can do to influence the dice. if the beastman rolls an attack and hits, the most i can do to concole u is that ur companions will no doubt slay the creature if ur unable to.

Also in the event of a TBK, u may all start your new characters with your current XP values w small minuses from the total (almost always just to the beginning of your previous level). the progression of this new party in the same campaign is up to u.

and i know that experianced adventurers will barely need the wwarning, but COME PREPARED to DIE. This is Warhammer, and people dying is actually a normal thing. if someone is murdered in a back alley, no one cares. If beastmen ravage a small town, only your heroes are going to do anything about it. its a savage world out there, ripe w adventure, hoards of loot, and the ever looming threat of chaos :P

Sounds fair and good - here are my three sacrificial lambs.

Human Apprentice Wizard of the Heavens - prone to skirting the edge and risking the gaze of the gods of Chaos.

Human Peasant - caught in the wrong damn place at the wrong damn time.

Halfling Fieldwarden - crack shot with a sling and an interest in cooking.

Since only one will actually make it in to start with, I'd prefer to wait until that is known before doing too much backstory. The bold option is the one I'd prefer to start with :)

My vote on campaign titles is Bloody Vale or Tide of Iron.

I have not run WFRPG before, but have read the rulebook a few times through so shouldn't be too much learning curve.

Very interested and I own WFRP 2nd edition. Will post ideas later today hoping there's still room for more cannon fodder, er, player characters. ;)

Gotta Hit and Run today...

Female human Camp follower...and all the entails

Male Human Barber / Surgeon

Female Hunan / Initiate of Morr

Yes...bring on the pawns to my game of webs and spinnerets...I shall weave for them a doom that they shall never comprehend until their hearts are torn out of their chests!!! ummm...*awkward silence* I meeean...Who wants candy?!

Haha i am loving all the ideas so far, especially the peasant and the wizard for u Mark :P altho the halfling is more than welcome. no one i have ever gamed w has ever played a halfling and if u do u might just make my day :P.

Just hit me up w ideas Eradico, plenty of room for people :) in fact because of all the good ideas, im bumping up the max party limit to 6 :)

All right we are now opening votes for Campaign settings.

Bloody Vale: 2

Shadow of the Beast: 0

Tide of Iron: 2

The Hidden Blade: 0

please everyone submit two choices for the setting :)

Wait, we can be female human camp followers in this game?

Why wasn't I informed of this earlier?

*laughs*

I love playing prostitutes. It's my second favored class.

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

I like the two that already have a vote each.

All right ladies and Gents (assuming im in mixed company lol) i must regrettably vanish for a time. I have a RL Kingmaker group going on in about an hour, so everyone simply vote on two or one campaign settings, everyone else who has not come up w characters take ur time on them :) i look forward to disembowling...I mean! Meeting all of them.

I will be back on after tonight. Submissions will last until next Friday or sooner for characters and campaign votes :)

ANd Yes GM Aria, you may play any career in the 2nd edition book, except those on top without an intensive backstory as to why i, say, have a Kislevite running around w a Kithband warrior :P

*bounces on tail*

ooooh... hmmm. Not really a fan of the minis game, but I might see if I can get into this.

Essentially, you're just every day folk that get caught up in something big and scary, right?

Yes, that is basically it, you are a regular run down the mill of whatever career you are and for some event, reason, miracle, fate, bad luck, call it what you will, ya end up with the group getting involved in all sorts of crazy stuff.

Don't forget there is a very HIGH chance of death... it is a very deadly system almost as deadly as L5R.

Character Ideas (in order of playing preference)

1. Human Initiate of (depending on starting location) Sigmar, Myrmydia, or Taal. Young and idealistic.

2. Human Thief. Poverty-stricken as a youth, dislikes and preys upon the wealthy.

3. Half-Elven Mercenary. Professional soldier that suffers from wanderlust.

I would say the Shadow of the Beast, sounds like more intrigue xD

All right all right all right! I have a primary starter for the Bloody Vale. Ok this may seem strange but everyone interested please roll a percentile that i can see. DC 20. if u make it on the dot, one simple question. make it by 5 2 simple questions by 10 one plot question. and if u get a 1 u are given an explecit detail only your character knows, and no one else does. all of these rolls concern what UR character knows about this one place.

PLEASE ROLL YOUR FATE!!!

Eradico:

OK since ur the only one to examine half-elf, u get to choose half the elf bonus to stats, one of their talents, two of their skills, and a randomly rolled talent for humans, as well as all human skills. :)

Interested. And by percentile I hope you mean a d100.

1d100 ⇒ 80

I found a link to purchase and download a .pdf of the core rulebook, is that all I'm going to need?

Percentile: 1d100 ⇒ 82

Aria and Mark:

One simple question each about terrain, local rumors or the town you will be staying in. please ask me one in a spoiler and do not reach each others. what would UR characters want to know. all of this is personal IC material, so it does not matter if different people ask same question to try and benefit the party.

And yes Aria, essentially that is all you will need to play :) but please everyone STAY away from the last chapter for the GM only. i will warn everyone now, metagaming from this chapter can result in Chaos boons. Who here knows how bad a chaos boon can be in a world where any hint of mutant is immediately burned at the stake then chopped up into pieces and then burned again? so as a warning. DO. NOT. ATTEMPT. TO. METAGAME. under me. thank u :) i don't wanna Chaos boon any of u guys, but i have been forced to over the years.

Example, rules lawyering Intiate of Morr kept trying to quote OOC knowledge of the region, our opponents and etc. I gave him a second head. His party members hacked him to pieces. just saying.

1d100 ⇒ 25 percentile

Tzeentch:

Well, if I get to play a human female camp follower, hopefully a smart one with appraise and smuggling skills (think, well... I don't know if you know about the Samurai series based of the Book of the Five Rings written by Musashi Miyamoto, but there was a character and her daughter that did that when he was a young mercenary himself)... I would want to know:

Where in the town might an industrious girl who might get in some trouble from bigger, meatier dudes with pointed sticks might hang out if they get pissed she's profiting from them?

And:

Who's the biggest, meanest freaking mercenary that is known in this town so I can attach my camp follower to him?

Changer of Ways:
Superstitious Peasant asks: "Are there any rumors of dark creatures come to snuff out our lifespark?"

Rolls for Human Peasant Character:
WS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 5) + 20 = 27 - taking the mercy for average of 31
BS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 10) + 20 = 33

Tough: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 4) + 20 = 34

Wounds: 1d10 ⇒ 6 - 11
Fate Points: 1d10 ⇒ 7 - 3

Random Talents: Deleted as per request

Couldn't help myself as I wanted to get a headstart on statting up the character (if I get chosen of course)

Also this game has multiple GM's acting as the differing gods of Chaos. :) this is a game under me, my brother (acting as Slaanesh) and two others possibly as Khorne and Nurgle.

Aria:

For the Mercenary question, as far as your girl knows, Brenog the PC mercenary. he is one tough, strong, skilled sonnova beep. also he has a good fellowship :).

Also, for everyone to consider, i strongly encourage inter party conversation at down time, and i am looking for a mature party that is willing to bond as adventurers and not hold onto petty grudges like children. AGain, example from my past games. I wont go into detail, but two players made me so pissed and sad w their insults and bickering that i ruled the entire campaign over because everyone was picking sides like school children. So, please, I encourage animosity between people, but only at first. the trials u all will go through are harsh enuf to form brothers and sisters of battle :)

Deiros:

Also Deiros? U are now free to create your character profile with your appreciated intiative. You will have 13 starting wounds, and 2 Fate Points. also PLEASE do not roll random talents yet. leave that until everyone has created an alias and character sheet and the adventure is about to begin :) thanks

Please do not roll random talents just yet as a personal request to all of you thanks :) we will roll those just b4 the adventure starts.

Mark:

Also, for one of your below 30 stats, change it to a 31 as a boon from me, not Chaos boon, Sigmar boon :). also u will start with 11 wounds and 3 Fate Points :)

Also Mark...ask a different question lol. Because there are literally millions of dark creatures in a 100 mile area of where u guys will be starting whose sole purpose in their lives is to bisect u, disembowel u, and most likely eat u.
